Something rumored this way could come

RUMOR ALERT! RUMOR ALERT!

You have been warned.

While App State’s first 2008 opponent is set (Hello LSU), it would appear their date is not. Word is circulating that the game may be bumped from Saturday to … be still your beating heart, Monday night!

A couple of random nuggets to consider. First off, TV is definitely in play.

The Southeastern Conference has agreements with CBS, ABC, ESPN and Fox and, along with the Aug. 30 UH opener at . . . → Read More: Something rumored this way could come

Jerry Moore on the big game. I like that an IFL star loves some App State.

Soon all the kids will be wearing them. Sure to be in fashion another two years.

‘Bama grad may be headed here. Could be filling WR coaching slot.

Buckeye sings App State praises. Two-time Heisman Trophy winner knows a good team when he sees it.

UTC 10 to 15 years behind Appalachian State.. And you’re gonna have to start sprinting to catch up.

Busted!

Someone with a camera at Saturday’s BracketBuster SelfEsteemBooster contest between App State and Niagara has posted a highlight video on YouTube. It’s scored with raunchy rap lyrics (you’ve been warned).

The pain comes at 2:22.

I guess now Wake will no longer play App in baseball

We interrupt this basketball season for this important baseball alert -

App State beatdown some Deacs yesterday. And by beatdown, I mean 6-run-first-inning, 10-run win beatdown. In Weak’s homeopener, no less!

Appalachian’s 18 runs were it most versus a member of the baseball-rich Atlantic Coast Conference since ASU joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 1972. The victory is just Appalachian’s third in its past 49 meetings with ACC competition, but its second in the first five games . . . → Read More: I guess now Wake will no longer play App in baseball

Thank you D-Cats. May we have another?

As spankings go, the Black and Gold bendover in Belk Arena last night was mercifully light. It hurt. It throbs. It may leave a mark, but thankfully no scarring.

After playing near even for roughly 31 minutes, App State’s chicken wire defense eventually snapped. Jason “Who?” Richards and Stephen “Not STEE-ven but STEF-en” Curry ignited a 14-2 run the Apps failed to come close to matching. A five-point game with nine to go ended with the D-Cats smiling, 68-55. . . . → Read More: Thank you D-Cats. May we have another?

Into the 'Cats den we go

App State at mighty, mighty Davidson tonight at 7 p.m. in a game SO BIG, the local Charlotte Observer gives it a whole three – THREE! – sentences. Thank goodness for real newspapers. The game is on SportsSouth.

Five questions. Five answers.

On a scale of 1-10, just how bad does App State want to beat Davidson? Oh, about a 15. The D-Cats are the Romulans to our Federation. The rabid mutants to our Will Smith. The Joel Schumacher . . . → Read More: Into the 'Cats den we go

Who will weep for the 'Whee

While App State looks to a HUGE game tomorrow with mighty, mighty Davidson, our friends down in the ‘Whee have an even bigger game Thursday with Wofford.

And by big I mean, “oh the humanity” big.

The next loss for the Catamounts (9-18 this season) will be their 1,200th, according to the team’s media guide. Along the way, they’ve won 1,060 games and have an overall winning percentage of 46.9.

During the last 25 years, the Catamounts have compiled . . . → Read More: Who will weep for the 'Whee

Let's get happy …

Happy belated birthday to D.J. Smith, who turned 19 years old yesterday.

NUMBER: 9.

JOB: Breaking into the starting linebacker slot as a freshman, and keeping SoCon QBs awake at night for the next three years.

KEY STATS: Became a starter seven games into his college career and notched a team season-high 16 tackles against The Citadel. He also stole a Bulldog pass and took it back 23 yards to six-land. He was the SoCon Defensive Player of . . . → Read More: Let's get happy …

Speeding into the NFL draft

The NFL glorified presidential fitness test Combine was held over the weekend. And the SI Cover Boy is getting noticed for not being seen. He’s just too fast.

Appalachian State wide receiver Dexter Jackson did exactly what he had to do today at the NFL Scouting Combine, turning in a blistering 40-yard dash time of 4.27 seconds.

Yes, he made some great plays in college, and although that 4.27 is unofficial — the league hasn’t yet released the . . . → Read More: Speeding into the NFL draft

What a way to lose a game

Fans at the App State-Niagara game Saturday witnessed 21 lead changes, five in the final minute. And, befitting such a setup, the ending was phenominal.

With less than five seconds left, the Eagles had the ball out of bounds down by two. The Jones Arena crowd was deafening.

The ball was thrown in. The ball came loose! Richter scales went off! Clock almost out! Shrieks all around!

An Eagle got the ball! A heave from 25 feet! Buzzer! The . . . → Read More: What a way to lose a game

App State needs to get its Martha Stewart on

Just when you thought you had completed that Appalachian State shrine in your home – you know, the room with this, this, this and this – you suddenly find just one more item you desperately need to set it off just right. Until, of course, the next random discovery.

This one is gonna be hard to beat. What better way to turn off the power in your rec room then with a decorative Kevin Richardson light switch cover!
