Let's avoid that Dirty 'Nooga scene, shall we?

Buried nugget in the campus paper. “Increased attention is being focused on the sidelines this year because a NCAA ruling makes it possible for home field advantage in playoffs to be lost if students rush the field.” Not to argue, but does anyone really think the NCAA will bypass The Rock and its playoff receipts if kids rush the field tonight?

Helloween Havok reigns at The Rock

It’s the biggest home game of the season, Wofford versus App State on Helloween night! ESPN2 will be bringing the nation the pretty moving pictures (please excuse the construction, folks) and we’ll be in the stands (sorry, we don’t do costumes).

Here’s the storyline.

Two unbeatens enter, one unbeaten leaves. Wofford and App State are both perfect in league play. Winner takes the drivers seat. Oh, and for you history buffs, this is only the second time in SoCon . . . → Read More: Helloween Havok reigns at The Rock

Celebrate our other national champions

We mentioned our latest championship gold, and today you can help celebrate it! Let’s give it up for the App State championship cycling team!

From Appfan Michael:

We are having a national champions parade for the team at 5 p.m. around Boone with a police escort and all. The entire team will be there as well as our 11 national champions. We’ll do 2 laps around town before heading to the Chancellor’s house to present him and Rosanne with . . . → Read More: Celebrate our other national champions

Shock! Davidson picked to win SoCon!

The preseason SoCon bball poll is out. No surprise which team is No. 1.

Given that coaches can’t vote for their own teams, the Wildcats were an otherwise unanimous choice in the coaches’ poll to finish first in the SoCon’s South Division. Chattanooga was picked to finish first in the North Division in both polls. College of Charleston, in Davidson’s division, did manage one first-place vote in the media poll.

Appalachian State was picked to finish second in the . . . → Read More: Shock! Davidson picked to win SoCon!

How this for a scary costume – Coach Moore as Moc head coach

Since this has become a topic of discussion, why not make it a post?

Whatcha coming dressed as tomorrow night? We expect to see plenty of Palins, vampires and witches, or would all those outfits look alike? (We keed, we keed)

For no reason whatsoever, here’s a random list of suggested outfits we’d love to see.

- Wake Forest football player, with a wide yellow streak down the back of his uniform

- Three friends all dressed in gold, . . . → Read More: How this for a scary costume – Coach Moore as Moc head coach

The Helloween forecast for Boone

Bundle up! Clear skies, low right at 31 wonderful degrees. So wear some layers, people! And kevlar! Cause it’s dangerous out there! And not just for the Wooford defense!

Does the student paper even go to football games?

Just one of the many depraved, drunken, dangerous tailgate crowds which regularly populate The Rock, according to the campus paper

We had this in App-propre, but it really deserves a post.

The campus paper has an editorial out today which paints with a crooked brush a caricature of an App State home game. Apparently, we will all be lucky to leave KBS alive tomorrow night.

As it stands, costumes are frowned upon by security staff, but are not . . . → Read More: Does the student paper even go to football games?

Number crunching – When fire meets ice

Did you know you could spell champion with just three letters? Some mid-week number crunching

3-3 – Series record between App State and Wofford, in their past six games
4-2 – Record for the home team in those six games
14-7 – Final score last time Wofford played in Boone, fewest collective points scored at The Rock since 1997 (That when we beat Western .. uh-gin … 13-7)

43 – Yards needed by AE to become only the second Mountaineer to ever collect 9,000 yards of total offense in a career
9,370 – Career offensive yards collected by App State great Richie Williams
103.3 – Average yards AE needs the next four games to surpass The Man’s mark (No hurry, you got another whole season)

40.4 – Scoring average for Wofford, tops in SoCon
47.8 – Scoring average for Wofford in four SoCon games
1 – Number of games, out of seven, in which Wofford has failed to break 38 points (And that was at South Carolina)

League of champions said no, but it's going to happen anyway

Building on this, it’s been near impossible to find any real information on the NCAA’s decision to move the National Championship game to January. This article from the Dirty ‘Nooga suggests it is a done deal. The “vote” is just a formality.

Check out this detail.

… most of the FCS conferences approved the date change. The two that didn’t were the Southern Conference, home to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the host school for the title game, . . . → Read More: League of champions said no, but it's going to happen anyway
