Way more impressive in person…was on the field last Friday and just couldn't believe what the stadium now looks like…and its not even done!

What's impressive is coming up Stadium Drive and seeing it….it's hard to explain, you just have to see it.

Looks great, but too much white and 70's black and gold stripe needs to go ASAP ewww

  8. alex

    January 27, 2009 at 3:06 pm

i'd say it looks more like what someone in the 70's would think a stadium in the 2000's would look like…if you follow me…whoa.

APPsolutely beautiful…I echo what was said about coming up Stadium Drive. The view is breathtaking.

Now if we could only do something about Owens Field House now. Any clue on what purpose it will serve with the entire football program essentially being run out of the new press box?

  12. hapapp

    January 27, 2009 at 5:54 pm

The visiting team will still use Owens. Owens also will likely provide space for some of our other athletic teams.

  13. Jeff

    January 27, 2009 at 6:45 pm

I would also love to see the field house redone, but only after the track is removed.

    Two Words: High School.

You have a track around your field. Back to reality, in the land of the port-o-let

I'll do my best to ignore those that smoke Opiedumb. Anyway…the place has transformed. I remember back on '03 where it wasn't unusual to have only 13 or 14 thousand fans a weekend. What a difference 3 national championships and four SoCon championships will do for ya. I'm the first to admit…I didn't think all these changes were possible. It's more of a transformation…but yeah-can't wait 'til I get to see it! I'm actually making a trip up to Boone this weekend for the first time since football season for a little bit of skiing, since I graduated and now live in Atlanta. Ah…Boone! Yes =-)!!

Your stadium is finally comparable to ours. OUR HOUSE looks high school too. I admit it. But we are about to upgrade with an upper deck and a revamped press box with luxury suites. Eat our dust. I-AA titles? Been there. Done that.
    Moving on.

  17. dax

    January 27, 2009 at 10:16 pm

you're stadium sits 18,000. Ours sits 30,000. In those terms your stadium is relative to a middle school stadium while ours is a Collegiate Stadium.

It's no suprise to see Opie back here just dripping with jealousy.

  19. hapapp

    January 28, 2009 at 5:44 am

Since our "revamp" includes luxury suites explain how we are eating your dust. It would appear to be the other way around.

    January 28, 2009 at 5:47 am

It is clear that Opie needs to leave Mayberry.

All he can talk about is the Stink's baseball facilities (which ours are better anyway). Their basketball arena is junior high school and their football program is a has been.

Let's see…Aspen of the East or the STINK…you decide which one is more marketable at the next level.

  21. clayton

    January 28, 2009 at 6:31 am

Our stadium doesn't seat 30,000. It seats, stands, and go on the hills 30,000.

Also, I like the track. It shows we care about all of our student athletes, not just the football team.

  22. Jamey

    January 28, 2009 at 7:03 am

Poor Opie. Why do you need more seats when you cannot even fill the stadium you have? Anyone else remember those 1/2 full hills during the ASU v. GSU game this season?

As for the 70's Black & Gold on the new boxes…My hope is that we are planning to put something over that. Maybe some plaques celebrating our "Ring Of Fame" players…or even something noting every conference title we have won. Dress it up a little and show off your accomplishments.

  23. Derek

    January 28, 2009 at 8:15 am

Thank you clayton, I'm glad to see support for our other sports (especially track). We have very competitive track teams in Boone. Going to ETSU this weekend to witness!!!!

  24. JT

    January 28, 2009 at 8:18 am

Get rid of the track and put about 6k seats in front of Owens to hide it and we will be looking great. It is starting to look really good now.

OPIE… you might want to worry about getting ahead of WCU facility wise before you try to come after us. Eat your dust… Ha, Good one!

  25. Jon

    January 28, 2009 at 9:24 am

Any idea how the team is going to run onto the field from the new locker rooms. Are they going to run down the pedestrian ramp??

  26. appgirl

    January 28, 2009 at 9:44 am

I guess Opie hasnt thought about the fact that there is no where in Boone to put another track. We have the indoor track that goes around the convocation center, which is just a smart move in my opinion. I think putting it was the football field is also a smart move. We are limited on land here on the mountain anyway. Why not put it around the football field and save room for more dorms or something? We could have just said, "Well, no room for an outdoor track. Sorry guys." They put it around the football field so people could sit and watch as well. I'm sure the football team probably uses it anyway.

it already is a 1-a stadium first poster…….its FCS or FBS, not 1-a and 1-aa

  28. JB

    January 28, 2009 at 11:20 am

You know Op. You spend so much time on our site you must not spend much following GSU. We have lots of graduate school programs at App. Maybe you should look into it so you can quit hating, start loving, and hang out on our site legitimately. You're always welcome!

  29. Michael

    January 28, 2009 at 12:05 pm

It doesn't matter whether you call it FCS or 1AA. It's the same thing and everyone knows it.

  30. Geoff

    January 28, 2009 at 12:48 pm

i say keep the track (gotta support all sports) but make it black with "gold" lines…it would look a bit like a freeway but i think it would be sweet. i am sure anyone who runs will say "hell no, that thing would be tooo hot"…but it would look good!

  31. Sean

    January 28, 2009 at 1:16 pm

The whole thing does look very 70's and all that white is hideous. We are the black and gold! White is way too hospitable a color for the Rock.

  32. Michael

    January 28, 2009 at 1:23 pm

anyone who ran track in high school, college, or just for pleasure would not enjoy running on a black track. when it gets hot outside, black asphalt only intensifies the heat…

who cares if it looks good if it stifles our athletes?

  33. dynast3

    January 28, 2009 at 1:47 pm

I think a nice touch would be redoing all the seats. Perhaps going with chairbacks or just new benches in general. It would really make the stands pop out against the new press box.

  34. Ken

    January 28, 2009 at 1:59 pm

Why not a gold track with black lines?

  35. dynast3

    January 28, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Boise State and Washington both have tracks around their fields. The only real downside to a track around a football field is it pushes the stands away from the field a good ways. After being at Tiger Stadium this past year, I don't think we realize how far away from the action we are. If we were closer, imagine how much louder it could be. At Tiger Stadium you are literally about 10 feet from the bench and maybe 20 feet from the field if you are on the front row. But, the if the track means we are bush league, we are in good company with the likes of Boise and UW right there with us.

  36. General Moore

    January 28, 2009 at 3:28 pm

The track should go for many reasons! It can be put around the new soccer field! More seating and better views for football fans. Which is the sport that pays for all of the other sports! Football should have it's own thing!

  37. APPsenior

    January 28, 2009 at 5:18 pm

i agree, all the white metal on the press box just doesn't do it for me, and the black and gold stripes, while a good idea, just ain't a good look

but don't get me wrong, i'm happy with the way things are goin and love seeing the progress

Whoever said that your stadium seats 30 gand needs to share whatever he is smoking. Half of you peoplel have never even been to statesboro. Your perception of what Gsu has is so scrwed up. It cracks me up how many young fans you have who have no respect for any other team. It's obvious that appy is the nouveau riche of I-AA.

i thought you weren't gonna "grace" our site anymore, bud. oh and i checked your blog. not that many articles, i think half of em on the first page were from november. nothing good to post about gsu athletics so you have to come troll on appfan to get a fix or something? and i didnt see hardly any comments either. at least you can carry a conversation on this site as opposed to your "uncensored" blog.

Somebody please post pictures of "our house" next to "the rock". There seriously is no argument as to which facility is better. We have a brand new softball stadium, brand new baseball stadium with indoor batting and pitching facilities, a brand new soccer stadium, the best arena in the conference and one of the best in the Southeast, a newly renovated gymnasium with all new floors and separate areas for indoor track practice, soon to be finished tennis courts that will be covered, the only indoor practice facility in the conference, and golf courses for our teams don't get better than here in the High Country. Seriously, it isn't even close. Opie, quit bringing your weak sh!t on those board. You are delusional and there is no argument. Boise and Washington both have tracks around their fields…you think GSU is better than them too? You are a $^*%#@ moron! I can't even remember the last time I saw GSU on a national stage in the media. Your school is irrelevant…keep holding on to those Paul Johnson days because it is all you have left.

  42. Michael

    January 29, 2009 at 4:17 pm

I'd like to be peacemaker, even though it was a GSU fan who instigated…

I've never been to Paulson, but everything I've heard about it suggests that it is a great facility. Maybe some of the posters here have been to Elon… from the pictures, Paulson seems to have a similar design with the stadium's seats built into the hill itself. Paulson, obviously is bigger, but it seems to be about as nice. I think everyone would agree that Elon's stadium is pretty classy, even if it's not as large as ASU's.

Truth be told, there are a lot of really nice stadiums in the SoCon. The Citadel's finished with some VERY nice renovations. Samford's is small but has good facilities. Nooga's is great, obviously. Western's is small but still nice. Never been to Western's. Furman's is no-frills but it ain't bad either.

I'm not 100% certain that we still have the best arena in the SoCon. G'boro will soon be using the G'boro Coliseum (to a mostly empty house, but who are we to criticize?), and CofC is opening a new arena downtown soon. Theirs will be at least on par with ours.

As for whose facilities are more FBS-ready? I don't know enough about GSU's, but I think ASU's are certainly ready. I'm a grad student at Ball State, which is in the MAC, which is sort of on par with C-USA. Ball State doesn't have anything that ASU doesn't, excpet (again) practice fields.

Opie, the Humanitaritan Bowl hosts an ACC team every year, and its stadium has a track. Pac-10 member Washington has a track. Duke's stadium has a track. If stadiums with a track are good enough for the WAC, the Pac-10, and the ACC, C-USA won't care whether our stadium has a track.

Opie needs to stop worrying about us and clean up the STINK.
