Finally, let's talk some football

Exactly 128 days (and counting) to the end of Intermission, there’s already some guessing going on as to exactly how good App State’s first foe is going to be.

According to one report’s best guess possibility estimate, East Carolina will be the team to beat in C-USA.

Arrrrrrg!

Here’s why I like East Carolina to repeat: The Pirates were first in C-USA last season in total defense and they return eight starters, among them, arguably, the league’s top defensive . . . → Read More: Finally, let's talk some football

The day after the big hire

Conspiracy theorists, unite!

Today we read new details as to what exactly did or did not happen during the long, efficient, in-depth App State coaching search.

As we all know, Buzz Peterson was offered the job, then more than a week later declined it, then suddenly – BAM! – the job is his!

Apparently it all went down spontaneously earlier this week. Exhibit A, this report in the Asheville paper.

He (HWSNBM) said in a teleconference Wednesday that there . . . → Read More: The day after the big hire

AppFan Poll – Now that it's finally over

How excited are you about App State bball?   Totally stoked! I’m so there for every home game next season! BUZZ BALL! Please excuse our intolerable disappearing acts

We’ve spent the past three days with UV grenades and bouncing mirrors of sunlight, but still there be gremlins afoot. The guys down in the basement are working to keep the good ship afloat, but this is still one bad hat Harry. Save us John Conner, you’re our only hope!

THE Man now available for parties, touchdown drives

Depressing news from way up north – Richie Williams has been cut by the CFL’s Hamilton Ti-Cats franchise.

The reason? Too many QBs, with more on the way.

Despite three years in a Hamilton Tiger-Cat uniform, quarterback Richie Williams says he never got a legitimate shot to win the starting job.

“When I first came in, they had just signed Jason Maas to be the guy. Then they signed Casey (Printers) to be the guy. Then there were coaching . . . → Read More: THE Man now available for parties, touchdown drives

Look who gets a chance to maybe play catch with the Blur

The pride of the Formidable Fumblin’ Dukes is headed to Tampa Bay! To try out as a QB!

Good luck with that.

Landers has been invited to play quarterback at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ rookie mini-camp this weekend, his agent said Monday night. Landers plans to leave for Tampa on Thursday and practice with the Bucs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“That’s the plan at the moment,” agent David Sullivan said by phone from his Norfolk home. “Right now, . . . → Read More: Look who gets a chance to maybe play catch with the Blur

We have a coach, and, well, whatever

Meet the new old coach – “Peterson will have a five-year deal and get an annual base salary of $177,500 plus incentives of an undisclosed amount based on performance including championships and postseason appearances and the academic performance of the team.” Whatever happened to “bad timing“?

HERE’S THE PLAN. Instead of many individual He Who Shall Not Be Maimed (HWSNBM) posts, we’re just gonna update this one. Hopefully it can contain the excitment! We mean, just look at the . . . → Read More: We have a coach, and, well, whatever

Beware the late season fury of App State baseball

Pollard’s Pounders won for the 12th straight time in Boone yesterday, sweeping a series with Wofford and building a nice stockpile of confidence heading into the final month of the season.

Appalachian (26-17, 13-12 SoCon) won for the 13th time in 14 games overall and stretched its home winning streak to 12. Since opening the season at 6-14 and 1-9 in SoCon play, ASU has won 20-of-23 overall and 12-of-15 in conference action.

AppFan Poll – We really need to name that game

Several days ago we asked you Appfans to help coin a phrase for the 2009 season opener – App State at ECU. One slogan stood out, but there appeared to be some angst regarding it. So we’ll offer a second poll with fewer options. One addendum, we originally did not use the phrase “World’s Largest Outdoor BBQ” cause we aren’t familiar with indoor BBQs. But we got enough complaints to modify it.
