Don't Miss

Immediate thoughts on The Incident

One movie we don’t want to see, yet have to

We all know what’s being reported. Some thoughts:

1. Sometimes students, even those with national awards, have to do things like cut grass. Make beds. Shave (GET THAT BLADE AWAY FROM YOUR THROAT!). While we’re sure there’s a tongue in the cheeks, does anyone really expect AE to be carried around like a golden god for fear he may trip on a step? Really?

2. He’s not dead. He’s expected to play this season. He’ll be in class. He has all his limbs. It’s just a cut that needs a couple weeks to heal. Sound scary? Yes. In need of an immediate bake sale fundraiser after church Sunday? That’s up to you.

3. AE atrophy. He didn’t practice much in the spring, due to knee surgery recovery. Now he’ll miss a chunk of preseason camp. Ya gotta wonder just how much rust there will be. Think back to black Black Saturday, 2007. AE starts against the Stink in his first real game back from the Michigan injury. He did not look good early. It took a few series to work out some kinks. But damage had been done. And that was in midseason.

4. Can DP step up. While AE sits out, there will be more preseason PT for DeAndre Presley, a sophomore not good enough to start a playoff game against Richmond heir apparent to run the spread. The more time he gets to be the leader, the better. The bar has been set incredibly high. He needs to start thinking now, “I’m starting Sept. 5.” And practice like it.

5. ECU has to wonder who will start. There’s probably not much difference in preparing for an AE over DP, but ya gotta think the mental approach come gameday will be a little off. Just ask Citadel coach Kevin Higgins. It’s not much of an edge, but the more your foe don’t know the better.

6. The Legend will grow. AE is on the national radar. He was the top player in FCS last season, and he starred on ESPN Helloween night 2008. He’s played with injury before, and rocked! If he does start against ECU and finishes Michiganesque, well …. you know the movie.

My favorite scene is when Brian Quick jumps over the lawn mower and catches Armanti's keys that he tossed him while falling to the ground.

Good comments, one and all, Appfan. The sky is not falling, the world is not ending. He's been working out all summer and from other, more serious, injury reports (Storm Moore), those summer workouts were pretty grueling and I'm sure he spent some time running drills with the offense. As long as the cut heals and he has no pain by Sept. 5th, I see him being the starter and being rip roaring ready to go to seize the Pirate ship in Greenville.

Listening to David Jackson talk today, he sounds confident that Armanti will be back for the last two weeks of fall camp. If he makes a speedy recovery we'll be just fine.

Anyone that can take on three GSU backs at the goal line, or jump more than three Michigan players at the goal line and score. He is one of the toughest guys I have ever seen during a game. Then gets wounded in the grass battle. Let's just keep him in game situations full time. Maybe we need to buy this lawnmower and destroy it at pre-game tailgates.

Wouldn't be surprised if the transfer from toledo, travaris cadet, steps up during fall camp and gives DP some competition.

Personally, I think this is a brilliant head fake. Armanti will probably be healed up in a week, but it leaves ECU guessing which QB may start. What's the word on Quinn Thornton? Did he make the grade or not?

At last word, Quin Thornton didn't have the grades and is going to have to go to a junior college… that really sucks because he would have been an immediate contributor. Especially since we lost Josh Johnson to transfer as well.

That blows as I think Thornton ran a 4.25 40. What's the word on some of the other freshmen that could possibly play this year?

John Deere Lawnmowers: "Doing what Big-10 and SoCon defenses can't do for over 100 years."

Any chance the Stadium Nurse will be holding a carwash to help raise money for the "Save The Armanti Fund" I think it would be OK to exaggerate his injury if it provoked that kind of support.

ESPN's article about this states that a former Michigan QB will be transferring to ASU this fall and will be eligible to play. Anybody heard this?

It will be a interesting battle for that #2 QB spot, whole lot of talent and speed.

I hate to bring up a sore subject but every time the Richmond playoff game last year comes up I have flashbacks…and not the good kind. Healthy DP > or = injured AE?…aaaaaaaaggggghhhh…not again!

Note to App St players; keep youre foot out of the friggin lawn mower.
It is not good to roll into Rowdy Dowdy Ficklen with only 1 functioning appendage. Especially when youre gonna need every limb you have, that is right before we tear them off one by.
Prepare to be embarrassed in Greenville……
    Go Pirates.

Wow, that trash talk was butchered horribly, and deserves to be made fun of, so do your worst Appies.
In all seriousness, it should be a good game and we do respect App St. Win or lose its gonna be one hell of a fun weekend for both sides.
