Meet a Mountaineer: CoCo Hillary

gamefaceWith 3 days until kickoff, we’re gonna try to focus daily on a different App we can’t wait to see in action!

NO. 6 – COCO HILLARY

POSITION: Wide receiver, kickoff returner.

VITALS: 5-10, 190 pounds. Junior.

CAREER STATS: 29 games played, 12 started. Has 79 career catches for 1,074 yards and 5 TDs. Also has 73 kickoff returns with a 23.7 yard return average and one TD.

SECRET IDENTITY: Real name is Cicory William Hillary.

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOK: Hillary need 13 KO returns and 139 return yards to become App State’s all-time leader in both stats. Already owns single-season record in return yardage (1,030 in 2007).

ALL-TIME DEBUT: Played first collegiate game at Michigan, where he caught four passes for 63 yards and returned 7 kicks for 151 yards. His fourth-quarter 24-yard reception set up Rauch’s go-ahead FG.

NEVER ONE AND DONE: In 2007 Hillary finished every game with no fewer than two catches. He had a season high 9 against LSU, and six against Samford. For the season he averaged four receptions a game.

LOST IN THE SIXTIES TONIGHT: Last season he notched five straight games of at least 60 yards receiving.

ME-ME-ME-MEEEEEE: Yep, that’s him you hear.

HE ACTS TOO!: This line always cracks us up – “And you can’t swim by yourself. That’s dangerous.”

WHAT AE SAYS: Of the man who could have had his job – “”He finds the open spots,” Edwards said. “And he more than likely is the one who gets the ball.”

I'm honestly surprised Coco averages 20+ KO return yards, and even more surprised he holds the school single-season KO return yardage record. Not sure if that indicates he does pretty well returning kick-offs, or that ASU has historically been not-so-great in that department. It seems to me that our opponents are usually much more dangerous in this phase of the game than are we.

Baller, can't wait to see what he does this season now that he's not the only receiver opposing defensive backs have to watch

The defense wasn't great in 2007, so got lots of opportunities to return kicks. Plus, he's been the primary returner, seems like we've split time back there and used 2 returners. People have been very critical of his return abilities but, I think they should be more concerned with our kick coverage. When the other team's returner is averaging 30 yards a return, we expect our guy to average 40.

That being said, Mr. Senior summed it up perfectly. He's a baller. He's been the #1 receiver, kick returner, and 3rd string QB. We were very close to wondering why our redshirt junior star receiver cut his foot mowing the grass.

He has also replaced K-Rich as the guy I want the ball to go to in tough situations.

I don't have the same comfort level with Coco that I had with Richardson. Coco did have a key, early-game unforced fumble in Richmond's red zone, remember.

Coco Hillary has the best smile in football. Period. Now that Corey Lynch has gone to bigger and better things, Coco is my pretend boyfriend. And, oh yea, he's a baller.

I do remember, he struggled against Richmond. I don't have the same comfort level with him that I did with Richardson (I probably won't mutter "#6 and nobody else" to myself in tense situations).

But, if we need to convert a 4th down, I want the ball headed his way. I trust his connection with Armanti more than any other receiver or running back.

They're apparently about to talk about ASU on PTI…(ESPN). It's on the list to talk about anyway. Probably about AE's status. If anyone wants to watch, tune in. If you miss it, it usually re-airs at 6:30 on ESPN 2.

Mountaineer Anthem….is that the horrible rap song that we are all subjected to prior to home games? It makes me long for the funky dope beats of K-Fed and the PoPoZao phenomenon.
