  8. Jon

    September 12, 2009 at 7:06 am

We'll do that Piratefan, let us know how bad ya'll whip up on Rice.

  9. Gwaltineer

    September 12, 2009 at 9:04 am

Pirate, i'd be worried about the other mountaineers. Seriously, you beat a 1-AA with a backup QB by 5 points on your home turf. It's probably about time to get over it. If this is your only win 5 games into the season, come on back and talk smack. Otherwise if you're that much better than us, move your little self on.

  10. Triadappfan

    September 12, 2009 at 11:57 am

So I'm listening to the game because I can't make it to Boone and David Jackson makes me think we broke through for a huge run then I realize it was a 8 yard gain. He keeps me very interested.

Our Defense got schooled today . . . That's what happens when you believe in your own hype!

  14. chris

    September 12, 2009 at 2:32 pm

    nice defense we got here…

lets go over to the retirement home, im sure i could find someone there to stand in the secondary with their hands up and try to knock down a few balls…would be better than what we did today…horrible, we have a four game losing streak

  18. Flashman

    September 12, 2009 at 2:36 pm

You could see this one coming twenty miles down the road. The Apps always play like jacksh!t against Southland Conference teams. First Nicholls State, then Stephen F. Austin, then Northwestern St. (twice), and now McNeese St. All those teams lit us up and lit us up good. No excuses for being this poorly prepared. Our program appears to have regressed back to where it was in the late 90's. Either that or the dreaded complacency bug has set in. We should have seen it coming.

  19. Apporange

    September 12, 2009 at 2:37 pm

341 yards in the air, I thought our secondary was supposed to be a strength . . . but I guess when a guy has all day to throw the ball, that happens!

  20. Jaybee

    September 12, 2009 at 2:37 pm

Three losses in a row, to go along with 3-peat national championships. Disappointed but still a fan to the end. Go get em next week. And Wiley needs to run the defense's tails off.

  21. Chard

    September 12, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Did the defensive coach show up today?

  22. Flashman

    September 12, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Jaybee, maybe Wiley is the one who needs to do some running.

  23. Jeff D.

    September 12, 2009 at 2:39 pm

When was the last time we started a season 0-2?

  24. Triadappfan

    September 12, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Man yall sound like a bunch of bandwagon fans. Support your team even if we are on a 3 game losing streak. It's a long season.

  25. Apporange

    September 12, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Flashman, I am going to go with complacency. Hats off to Mcneese, they certainly wanted it more, reminds me of us when we play someone we think can beat us . . . unfortunately, we don't think anyone can. New digs, good ranking, hey lets take the field and the other team will fold. I am so pissed.

  26. Noobins

    September 12, 2009 at 2:41 pm

recruit some big ass boys for the defensive line, or stop running the fat guys!! We need some push up field…put some meat in there

  27. Flashman

    September 12, 2009 at 2:41 pm

2003 was the last time we started 0-2 and we ended up 7-4 missing the playoff even though we defeated fellow conference heavyweights GSU and Furman.

  28. Apporange

    September 12, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Triadappfan, give me a break! I bleed black and gold, but that D effort was not good. You can't look like we did in the second half against a good ECU team and then give up the plays we gave up today(527 yards). What will happen when we play a top 10 Offense . . . I need to get it off my chest; and the D pennalties, c'mon on. Maybe we should give the D a standing O for taking the field.

  29. Jeff D.

    September 12, 2009 at 2:46 pm

I look at it this way. Preseason is over. The 1st two games show exactly what the coaches need to concentate on. We have a week off before hosing Samford. Time to tighten up the laces, FIX HE HOLES, come together as a complete team, and come out fighting come Sept. 26th!!! If we run the tables for the rest of the season, no one gives a rat's a$$ what happened at the beginning of the season!!!

  30. Jeff D.

    September 12, 2009 at 2:49 pm

Oh,and as far as bandwagon goes, this ISN'T Chapel Hill! We all know what this team is capable of and they do as well. With some polishing, they can turn this season around in a heartbeat. I'm sure the place will be just as packed in 2 weeks. Never heard, what was the attendance day?

  31. Apporange

    September 12, 2009 at 2:54 pm

Armanti just said it, maybe the team is too relaxed

  32. Kidd Brewer

    September 12, 2009 at 2:55 pm

    Our defense is awful

  33. Kidd Brewer

    September 12, 2009 at 2:57 pm

And Vitaris is a waste of a uniform…sorry, but two misses in two weeks isnt acceptable. Let the freshman kick FG's.

  34. Apporange

    September 12, 2009 at 3:00 pm

chalk up another loss at Elon if our pass defense is going to play like that, I will be there, but it may be ugly!

  35. Kidd Brewer

    September 12, 2009 at 3:02 pm

Apporange, Elon? How about Samford…we better use that bye week well, because the Samford game is huge.

I think I'll call up the ticket office and offer them $10.00 per ticket for my gold seats they screwed me out of…maybe they'll be off their high horse now with an 0 and 2 start!!!! LOL

  37. flajfljdsf

    September 12, 2009 at 3:10 pm

the watauga pioneers could score on this defense

  38. Apporange

    September 12, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Kidd Brewer, agreed, just looking at our match-ups. I think we can stop the run if we have to, just looking at passing teams. Clearly we have the talent to play better, it's a matter of being hungry and not playing like our you know what does'nt stink.

  39. Apporange

    September 12, 2009 at 3:11 pm

It's going to be a long 13 days! I hope I don't drive 4 hours to see an 0-3 start

  40. Kidd Brewer

    September 12, 2009 at 3:16 pm

Today was like a video game…but again, a missed FG and a fumble at the 2, not to mention a defense that would have struggled in 2 hand touch…we need some work. I thought Armanti played great, nice to see him back. Devon Moore and Matt Cline were solid. But our kickoff coverage and FG kicker hurt us again.

  41. hommedumeche

    September 12, 2009 at 3:32 pm

Great game gentlemen, I nearly wore a hole in my leather sofa during the game! Two very good teams gave it their all today, great sportsmanship on both sides! I see a lot of frustration on this thread with your ASU team but your team will get better and maybe MSU and ASU will meet again this year in the playoffs.

All the recent feedback from our traveling MSU fans has been positive. The MSU fans and the MSU radio announcers think ASU has a hell of a team, outstanding facility, and great fans!

Both teams made great impressions for the quality of FCS play!

The Cajun Nation loves the MSU COWBOYS!

  43. Gwaltineer

    September 12, 2009 at 3:42 pm

Brian Quick needs to learn that he doesn't have to score every time he touches the ball. as bad as our D was, we still should have won this game. Ten points left on the board by unforced errors. Our D sucked it up especially in the 2nd half, but our offence stumbled all over themselves in the first half. We've got work to do.

  44. hommedumeche

    September 12, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Apporange, if we are both fortunate enough to play each other again in the playoffs, the hype would be awesom for both schools and for FCS football. Remember our playoff accomplishments are won on the field, not via digitial algorithms

Is no one else irritated by the punt from the 35 yard line?

  48. Dixiedawg80

    September 12, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Anybody at the game today notice the delay in the radio broadcast? Whats the deal with that?

  49. appnaysayer

    September 12, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Quick coughs up the ball on the goal line; Vitaris misses a chip shot field goal–enough points to win.

Defense was completely unimaginative. No blitzes that I saw. Few stunts that I could pick up. Clearly we miss Leonard love and Pierre Banks. Give McNeese some credit, too, especially 22 (Penland, I think). Geez, what a horse. No answer for him AT ALL. Play calling STILL very conservative in the first half. Waited far too long to start spreading them out. Agree with John on the punt. Why when he hadn't stopped them all day?

Other than that, an enjoyable game if you like offense. A lot like a tennis match. Figured maybe we should have run a couple more plays, maybe taken a knee on our last drive or something to kill some more time. Left them with 2:00 too much.

  50. appnaysayer

    September 12, 2009 at 4:10 pm

One more thing…were it not for scheduling cupcake Jacksonville, we'd have started 0-2 last season as well. Maybe it'll be easier to park for the Samford game.

  51. frustrated appfan

    September 12, 2009 at 4:11 pm

weaksause today!!! lets make sure we can beat DI-AA teams before we ever talk about moving up again… McNeese barely bean a DII team last week and they are nowhere close to as good as half of our conference… when was the last time we lost 2 games back to back at home? (going back to richmond game) 2004??

  52. hommedumeche

    September 12, 2009 at 4:17 pm

App Fans we look forward to your visit to our MSU stadium "The Hole", we will do our best to feed you some cajun staples; boudin, gumbo, gator, shrimp, crabs, etc. The cajun creed is, if it walks, crawls, swims, or slides slower than 10 mph, eat it! Be sure to eat plenty when you visit, because we cajuns feel we did something wrong if a guest leaves our table hungry!

One thing we can't promise is the great weather you guys have this time of the year….. "liquid sunshine" has been falling for the past 18 hours, with 86F temp and obviouly 100% humidity. Hell teal season started this morning, and the little teal duck looked half-cooked it was so warm this morning, even had to watch the dogs (retriever) closely so the gators wouldn't take a bite!

Hopefully the next meeting will be as exciting as this one.

    Look forward to your visit!

    Bon chance mes amis

Sweet mother hen that carries chickens, we're 0-2 on the season and it's the end of the world as we know it.
The season is just started y'all. It ain't over.
The bye week will help get this team back on track. AE played good today, a little rusty, but seemed he was getting back in rythym.
Samford is up next.Hopefully the team will use these two losses as a wake up call and get back down to business doing what APP does best…WIN Baby WIN!!

  56. Pitt98

    September 12, 2009 at 4:22 pm

What happened to our "stacked" defense?

Well, on the bright side, AE is back and looking awesome! Better get that D straightened out for Sammie, they're gonna bring their A game too. Congrats Cowboys, you earned that one, unlike some purple helmeted warriors I know.

  57. appfanmidwest

    September 12, 2009 at 4:29 pm

Our defense was a complete embarassment. I hope they get their butts ripped apart. I'm sick of a terrible defense year after year. What the hell is the problem with the coaching staff???

  58. appfanmidwest

    September 12, 2009 at 4:31 pm

JMU is about to upset Maryland, W&M upset UVA, Richmond beat Duke…we better get our asses in gear!!!

  59. IAN

    September 12, 2009 at 4:54 pm

HEY when was the last time we returned a kickoff for a TD! Love Coco, but he does not need to be returning. Also, our coaching staff needs to wake up and make some decisions. Richmond-Armanti was obviously not up to speed, should have been pulled. ECU-DeAndre, in the game not producing for way to long, they even said Cadet was making plays in practice but went with DeAndre cause of experience. And today, why the hell are we hurrying the offense so much, give the D a break and do not leave 2 minutes on the clock, what the hell was that, run it down!

  60. IAN

    September 12, 2009 at 4:57 pm

oh and Quick….c'mon, that was pivotal in the loss. Have faith in you though, keep your head up, expect great things from you!

  61. appfanmidwest

    September 12, 2009 at 5:32 pm

The defense lost the game period. If you can post 35 vs. McNeese St, you should win. Did we even have a D line today? I'm not sure if we can't recruit or we need some changes in the coaching staff or what…but our D freaking stinks.

  62. Raby

    September 12, 2009 at 5:56 pm

Urgh! So close yet so far. Mess ups on both sides of the ball. Seemed like a really bad show of our D. Hopefully the Bye will give us time to refocusa and come back strong. On a plus AE was looking good after working the rust out!

  63. Appfansince84

    September 12, 2009 at 6:02 pm

AppState has advanced beyond their raisin' The have for the past 3 years forgot where they came from. We always prided ourselves on our D. When we couldn't score on N. Iowa we went out to recruit an offense. Now we have more quarterbacks than we can shake a stick at, but we give up 24+ points per game. When was the last time we didn't have an offensive shoot out. Hate the overpriced "trophy case" had to open with such a butt whoopin'

  64. random dude

    September 12, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Yeah i noticed the delay in the radio broadcast over the video. Weird and annoying.

  65. Kidd Brewer

    September 12, 2009 at 6:05 pm

Our offense scores like lightning, only problem is our D couldnt stop a thing, no matter how much rest they had. The 4th an inch punt drove me nuts!!! You cant win the SoCon or a National Title when you let teams go 95 yards on you. I think we can be a good team, and I think McNeese is pretty good. If you score 35 against anyone it should be enough to win. But that being said…Defense, make a play. D-Line, get pressure. Kickoff team, make a tackle on their side of the 50. Vitaris, make a FG. Co Co, RUN! Quick, protect the ball! Get it together fellas, and we'll be ok.

  66. Van

    September 12, 2009 at 6:21 pm

think the delay between radio and tv has something to do with difference in timing bounce back from satellite feed, vs. radio signal. ??

  67. appfantoo

    September 12, 2009 at 6:34 pm

Before I list my complaints let me say that I believe in our team and our coaches but I need to vent a little:

    1. Have we ever practiced punt team? We have lined up to punt with 10 men on the field at least 4 times in the first 2 games. A very basic fundamental of the game is to have 11 players on the field.

    2. Did Rob Best secretly slip into the new pressbox and tap into the offensive play calls? Didn't we prove to be more successful by NOT employing the 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-artificial-dust offensive strategy?

41 rushing attempts vs. 25 passing attempts – the imbalance creates predictibility in our offense the we haven't seen since – well – since Satterfield left for Toledo.

    3. Tight ends – who needs'um?

    4. As bad as the defense seemed to perform today, Special Teams is responsible for both L's on our record at this point. Between missed field goals, bad punting and even worse coverage on punts and kick-offs we have taken points off the board and lost the field position battle early in both games.

    5. McNeese's running back Pendland is REAL good.

    6. McNeese's offensive game plan was brilliant – they consistently were able to isolate a faster player against one of our defenders in a one-on-one situation. The did their homework and created mis-matches and we had NO answer the entire game.

McNeese had 38 rushing attempts vs. 35 passing attempts (see #2 above).

    7. I hope this is the last time I have to do one of these lists this season.

  68. Pitt98

    September 12, 2009 at 7:21 pm

Nice post, appfantoo. I agree completely. Don't forget the positives, like…armanti played his tail off (thank goodness) and even has all his toes. If the D has to pick a time to regroup, now Is the time to do it. In two weeks, let's show Sammy how a national champ plays! Ok?
