No more room for error

Van Halen would be proud

App State is … /groans softly .. 0-2.

The annual rule of playoff thumb is three losses equal bubble team; four losses you’re d-o-n-e.

The remaining members of 3Peat Nation know this. And are reacting accordingly.

Samford offers an imposing challenge as the league opener. Not only are Bulldogs 2-1 and ranked nationally — losing only 28-24 at Central Florida — but they gave ASU all it wanted in last year’s 35-24 victory in Birmingham, Ala.

“We know conference is a whole new start,” said Gastonia’s Josh Jackson, a senior who was a member of each of the Mountaineers’ national championship teams in 2005, 2006 and 2007. “But our attitude right now is, ‘We can’t lose any more.’”

Nope. You can’t. And Jackson should know. He’s been here before.

Five days, five hours, ten minutes, 13 seconds …

First home SoCon game may be the best home SoCon game, unless GSU makes significant improvement.

I haven't seen a Football win in person since December 14th in BOA Stadium and November 29th in the beautiful KBS. That was before sitting through two heart-breakers…one included a certain group of insects coming to town and putting up over 30 points in our house; the other involving a quarterback who forgot what color jerseys his team was wearing and losing eerily by the exact same margin, sporting the exact same score.
Lets just re-focus, get settled, start fresh, play some defense and WIN SOME FOOTBALL GAMES!
I am looking forward to the kickoff of SoCon play…lets welcome the Bulldogs to Boone with a beatdown then take a leisurely weekend down to Charleston and beatdown some more Bulldogs. that will get us back to .500…then its time for a winning record from there on out!

Arachnids. And to some extent, both QBs threw to the wrong color jerseys.

I still have a bad case of arachnophobia. somebody needs to beat those guys!
True, both guys had an awful day and wanted to make sure everyone, on both sides of the ball, had a chance to catch a pass.

All this talk of playoffs, running the SoCon table, Championship #4 has gotten us is an 0-2 start.
    WIN EACH DOWN.
    WIN EACH QUARTER.
    WIN EACH HALF.
    WIN EACH GAME.

This is where our focus should be right now. If we can accomplish these goals then we WILL have the end result we are all looking for.

One game at a time. We have to have a solid day on both sides of the ball – no letdowns – to be Samford. They proved last year that they are ready for SoCon football and can compete with ASU's athletes. Time to strap it on and be ready to play every game like it's our last. Defense has had two weeks to think about their performance against MSU. No excuses, just play ball for four quarters and everything else will take care of itself.

Don't forget that Richmond(very lucky in week 2), W&M, Villanova, UMASS, JMU(very tough out of conference rivalry game @ Liberty this wk), Delaware, New Hampshire will be beating up on each other as the season wears on. We just gotta WIN, BABY!

I 2nd Jamey's comments. We just need to settle down and play Mountaineer football like we know how to. We have the talent to run the table but the mind set needs to be winning each down. On both sides of the ball.

    GO APPS!!!

I think this 2 week period for the loss to sink in to the D's head has been great! They now know we can't let up and I think you are going to see a different Mountaineer team come Saturday. If not then we don't need to be in the playoffs anyways. We will know this Saturday though. We will know if we just had a bad game or we have serious problems.

Our backs are to the wall and we have to take it that way one game at a time. I believe our APPs will play like they are supposed to from now on. The preseason is over. We have give two games away. NO MORE GIMMEES. WE MUST TAKE WHAT IS OURS AND GIVE NOTHING BACK!

We need to win NINE games before we talk playoffs. That's the only way to guarantee ourselves the automatic SoCon bid. As weak as the conference seems this year, I wouldn't count on more than one at large from SoCon, and an 8-3 non-conference champion is way too bubbly to suit me.

Agree DRM … we have a long ways to go and short time to get there … We better be ready to lay down the law Saturday!

Looks to be rainy so who knows what that will do to us … Hope Jerry does not use that indoor practice facility this week and lets the boys play in the rain.
