When AE sees Citadel, he sees endzone

He like to abuse dogs, but not as bad as some other QBs we know

Quick! Which SoCon team has been the most abused points-wise by AE? And by abused, we mean picked apart worse than Jake Delhomme.

The answer? Poor, poor El Cid. In three meetings between the Bulldog D and AE, the noted landscaper has cut his foes down no fewer than 12 times.

12. Times. No other league rival has given up double-digit TDs to him (yet).

The final dance between the two is Saturday.

The Citadel has had little success in slowing down Edwards in three previous tries, as his 406 rushing yards, 547 passing yards and 12 TDs in victories of 47-21, 45-24 and 42-13 would attest.

“Obviously, he’s a guy you have to control,” Higgins said. “I don’t know if anybody has stopped him in a game yet. But we have to try to keep him under control, to make sure we slow him down and keep a hat on him the entire time.”

Good luck with that. Cause till now you’ve had no luck what-so-EVAH! slowing down the fastest man alive.

For our enjoyment, here is the line for each and every AE TD vs TC. Note, only five – FIVE – have come within the redzone.

2006
– Dominique Wilson 24 Yd Pass From Armanti Edwards
– Armanti Edwards 8 Yd Run

2007

– Armanti Edwards 80 Yd Run
– Josh Johnson 6 Yd Pass From Armanti Edwards
– Dexter Jackson 45 Yd Pass From Armanti Edwards
– Armanti Edwards 25 Yd Run

2008
– Matt Cline 25 Yd Pass From Armanti Edwards
– Armanti Edwards 16 Yd Run
– Coco Hillary 4 Yd Pass From Armanti Edwards
– Armanti Edwards 3 Yd Run
– Devin Radford 68 Yd Pass From Armanti Edwards
– Josh Johnson 24 Yd Pass From Armanti Edwards

Appfan, you mention AE and Delhomme in the same paragraph??? Are you trying to completely destroy App karma?

He's one of the backups behind our starting running back Devon Moore, who has gone over 100 yards rushing the past 2 games.

I can't wait for this game, but the game I'm really excited about is NC Central. I can't wait!! hahaha.

I hope we destroy El Cid by 40 points. Also, did any one see that Sagarin had Furman ranked 10 slots ahead of us. What a joke. We need to win evry game by huge margins. Pull Armanti after 3 quarters and let Cadet drop another 21 on them.

USA Today had a nice article about the CAA and how strong they are this year. I'd just as soon we take 3/4 of the CAA (with a few other FBS schools already) and form a brand new FBS conference.

    CAA- FBS style

    UMass
    Maine
    New Hampshire
    Rhode Island
    Villanova
    Delaware
    Richmond
    JMU
    App State
    Marshall
    Georgia Southern

I'd almost rather be in this conference than C-USA

what do we call the conference midwest??? wasnt one of the HBCU colleges trying to move up, like sc state or something, maybe still ODU or UNCC if they can get in there….not sure i like the fact of being in the same conference with the like of maine and rhode island…too northern for me

I think you set up a North South division. Add one more team to the South and you have it.

    CAA-South

    App State
    JMU
    Marshall
    Richmond
    Georgia Southern
    W&M (maybe too small)/ODU/UNCC/Georgia State

    CAA-North

    UMass
    Maine
    Delaware
    Rhode Island
    New Hampshire
    Villanova

Now, you can't tell me this FBS conference doesn't excite you vs. playing UTC, Wofford, Citadel and Elon. I'm sorry, but there is no comparison. You sprinkle in one big time game and one semi-big game, and you've got some EXCITEMENT!!!

add one more team somehow to the mix East Carolina.

    September 30, 2009 at 7:19 pm

Maine, Rhode Island would never make it in the FBS.

New Hampshire, Richmond would need to have a much bigger home attedance.

Georgia State, ODU, and UNCC are expansion teams do not count on them going FBS.

Not so fast App St has already scheduled games at McNesse St and Montana in the future. This will keep us out of FBS. I do not think App St has any immediate plans to go FBS, so stop talking about it.

    AppfanMidwest,

So you think that we will go FBS and have home road games against FCS Montana and McNesse St. I do not recall any FBS schools playing an FCS team on the road.

    AppfanMidwest

    Keep this in mind

    CAA small stadiums:
    1. William & Mary – Walter J. Zable Stadium at Cary Field – 12,259 (capcity)
    2. Maine – Morse Field at Alfond Stadium 10,000 (capcity)
    3. New Hampshire – Mooradian Field at Cowell Stadium – 8,000 (capcity)
    4. Rhode Island – Meade Stadium – 6,580 (capcity)
    5. Villanova – Villanova Stadium – 12,500 (capcity)

none of these compare to App St 21,000 that usually bring 25,000+. If we go FBS the above teams are not coming. They would have to have a major refit on stadiums or new stadiums.

    drago,

I don't disagree. I think you would probably see the CAA powerhouse teams (possibly in the bigger markets). All along I have been saying we would join Conf USA and I still believe that. I was thinking more long-term with the expanded CAA-FBS conference, as some of these programs with smaller stadiums are really starting to build momentum. You couple that with the fact the Nova is in Philly and Umass is outside of Boston (bigger markets), and you have growth potential. It's kind of like a Georgia State or UNCC situation, but the programs I mentioned are much more established schools.

What I really predict will happen is that Memphis and/or Central Florida will jump to the Big East. If that happens, I could see the following Conf USA line up:

    Conference USA- EAST

    ECU
    Marshall
    James Madison
    App State
    UAB
    Southern Miss

    Conf USA-WEST (stays the same)

    Tulsa
    SMU
    UTEP
    Tulane
    Rice

My thoughts earlier was centered around the need for perhaps another Eastern Conference and I think we could put together 6-8 teams that would make sense geographically.

I really like the C-USA EAST idea as we have three historical rivalries in our division (Marshall, ECU, JMU). Not quite sure where/if Georgia Southern comes into the picture however.

wow…. even the thought of App going into the FBS "grinds my gears" App does not belong in the FBS… we have no room for expansion and we fit PERFECTLY where we are… eventually, the time will come when we will have to move up — with the addition of new schools and pop. growth…. and when that time comes I pray that the FBS gets rid of the Bowl crap and follows the FCS playoff style… Then and only then will I favor APP moving up in division.

Dont you people like the opportunity to win a National Championship?!

You think a computer is gonna put ASU over Florida, Ohio State, (yea I dont follow 1-A at all so I have no idea whose even ranked high, and could really care less)

I am against App playing in any crap FBS conference like CUSA or the Sun Belt.

I do feel bad for midwest since they cannot appreciate watching App football these days.

And for the record, I love playing for National Titles.

    October 1, 2009 at 10:06 am

I don't totally agree with Midwest here but to say we don't fit in the FBS or shouldn't move up soon is wrong. Boise State did it and although they haven't played for a national title (YET!) they are competing on the highest level and have been awarded great bowl games in the past. I can't sit here and say that I wouldn't LOVE to be in Boise's position…

  28. Dan

    October 1, 2009 at 10:14 am

Relax on Boise, they won't make the title game even if they go undefeated. As far as the FBS argument…

    Beat El Cid.

  29. Dan

    October 1, 2009 at 10:16 am

and as far as that Tiger Woods argument goes, when was the last time he actually lost to a highschooler? We're 1-2 in our last 3 "JV" games.

    October 2, 2009 at 3:08 am

Actually, game one was a 20 year old and game 2 was a 17 year old. We are 18, so I don't think that is a fair comparison
