Open thread – Winthrop at App State

The bball team tips off for the seventh time tonight at home against last year’s Your Ad Here Self-Esteem Boosters foe. Two of the Apps’ last three games have needed OT. While pondering the odds of another extra session, consider this riddle – guess which SoCon team has the best record so far?

He knows a good pic when he sees it

Appfan Chad Mitchell just sent us a slew of shots from Rematch I. We’ll have some up tomorrow (there are some AWESOME shots here). But there’s one above all we MUST share with you now. Natch.

If you like Chad’s work, his company Chad Mitchell Photography & Design is having a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale through Friday. Check out his gallery* and find some presents for family and friends. As you can see, he does a lot of . . . → Read More: He knows a good pic when he sees it

All about AE. Only one more game guaranteed. /sigh

Giving voice to us all. “Are all of the quarterfinal games on 360? If so, that absolutely sucks. There’s no other way to put it. I watched Ball State every week for the last month and the crap SWAC game of the week on the U every Saturday, but games that actually have significance and meaning with higher competition get shafted to 360? Unreal.”

Reminder – that Thursday night 2010 opener may happen

The 2010 schedule is unknown except for one date – Nov. 20 at Florida. We also know App opens at ‘Nooga, possibly on a Thursday night – “Early indications have been that they’re certainly agreeable to playing us on a Thursday night, but it’s a matter of confirming some things on (App State’s) campus.”

STINK SET. App State in Statesboro Nov. 6.

The Stink gets a handoff from the Big Sexy

GaTech’s Paul Johnson lends the Stink an assistant – “Ga Southern announced Jeff Monken as its head football coach. Johnson-coached teams with Monken on staff have a 126-42 record and have been to 7 bowls, earned 5 playoff berths, won 2 FCS championships and 5 conference championships.”

Doing what he does best

Falcons, meet Superman. The dude can fly! Too bad Bucs still lose.

COACH MAY I PLEASE BLOCK THIS PUNT? Yes you may.

Bucs special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia gave S Corey Lynch the go-ahead to go after Michael Koenen’s punt 3:00 into the third quarter, seeing an opportunity to take advantage of Lynch’s little-known specialty. Though he plays sparingly on defense, Lynch is quite adept at blocking kicks of all kinds. He blocked six while at Appalachian State, . . . → Read More: Doing what he does best

Finally an awesome App State video fix

.

Don't ya know what the night can do

App State-Richmond set for 7 p.m. A NIGHT GAME, BABY! And, in his career, AE o-w-n-s the night*. Helloween ’08. App-Richmond I. Two title trips to ‘Nooga. Ooooo yeah. We’ll take that late kickoff. Oh, and it’s on ESPN Gameplan. All kickoff times to be posted .. when the NCAA feels like it.

* well, maybe not every night

REMATCH II: When champs collide

App State was top dog for three seasons, 2005-07.

Last season, Richmond knocked App off, literally and figuratively. All hail the new king!

/Ah hell ….

Saturday the two teams collide for the third straight postseason. This time, App State is the one playing tourist. Cause, yes Virginia, there is such a thing as a road game in the postseason.

Looking ahead to the big Rematch II, one newspaper poses a question no one is asking – Is . . . → Read More: REMATCH II: When champs collide

APP BBALL: A win in OT

Saturday night App State beat Morgan State in OT, 93-92. A few days earlier Morgan State won at Arkansas, 97-94. That’s the same Arkansas team which beat App State in OT, 81-72. Which means, um, … well .. we’re not sure. But we understand the BCS kinda works this way, somehow.

Rematch I down, Rematch II up next

Whew!

/wipes brow, pats heart

Who needs a defibrillator when you have playoff football!!

AE was half the man we’re used to seeing him be. Devon Moore was coated in Crisco. And the only rhythm by either team was the heaving groans from the sidelines when one drive after another was snuffed out.

Tied score. 13 all. 7:41 left. SC State had a fourth and one on the App 15. Time for a FG.

No pressure.

Open thread – The Rematch I

Intermission is long over. Time for the big scene(s?). The Bulldogs are used to big crowds and wins. The Mountaineers are used to 15-game seasons and new gold. ESPNU is gonna be broadcasting it all live. Who cares what’s going on elsewhere. We got three words for ya – Beat SC State.
