MEAC opts for prestige over payday

Remember that pop quiz? The answer is … playoffs! – “The presidents and chancellors in the MEAC have decided to maintain their automatic spot in the FCS playoffs, scrapping a proposal to create a bowl game that would have taken the conference out of the national title picture.”

Montana’s FBS obstacle – facilities

As we all know, the Griz recently decided to forgo dropping the “C” to get wid the “B”.

Today we know why. One word – facilities.

At least that’s the reason that jumps out at us, as the I-A report goes public.

The 221-page study compiled by the firm NACDA Consulting last summer and made available to the Missoulian last week by UM athletic director Jim O’Day has some eye-opening findings.

The study calls for new academic study rooms, . . . → Read More: Montana’s FBS obstacle – facilities

“Injury-free, hardworking, tenacious and smart”

Apt – “Smith is trying to become the fourth Appalachian State player selected over the last four drafts after the Mountaineers had no players picked in the previous six drafts. The school’s latest draft pick, Armanti Edwards, went in the third round to the Panthers last season.”

“Before their road to the national title was complete”

Maybe it’s the inferred smug sense of entitlement, or just lingering misery, but the opening lines of this otherwise suh-weet App State documentary just make us frowny face.

We do luuuh-uve the shot of Wilcox telling players to “get nasty.” And at 11:34, well …. /stands and applauds

From our comments ….

Since you asked about the meeting Saturday morning with Charlie Cobb, I thought I might share some thoughts with you. Charlie met with the Alumni Council with a power point presentation and talked for over 45 minutes as fast as he could. It was a massive amount of data gathered regarding the athletic program, all of it could support a move up or staying where we are at this time.

An interesting update from the courtroom

Dad – “(Freddie Edwards) who was convicted of a 2005 murder has been granted a new trial and had a bond hearing Tuesday at Greenwood County Courthouse. Armanti Edwards was present in the courtroom Tuesday and stood with his father before Judge Frank Addy during the hearing.” Details.

Shocking BCS bowl report not all that shocking

Non-profit – “The Fiesta Bowl’s board of directors commissioned an investigation into the chief executive’s personal fiefdom, finding instances of personal and political corruption which could lead to criminal charges and may threaten the bowl’s non-profit status. These findings are awful, especially considering the revenue comes directly from the pockets of students and taxpayers.”

Incoming – Imagine if this happened in NC

Dude. Exit quote, “Well, there you go…March SADNESS! …. You hate children.” What is it with Yankees? – “State officials said Friday that basketball hoops, located on the edge of private property but facing the street, violate the state’s Free Zone law, requiring the area immediately next to the pavement in subdivisions be free of obstructions.” Is Delaware now the worst state for sports?

NC State declares there can be only one

Stupid – “N.C. State officials sent an ultimatum to tiny Loyola University in New Orleans: Get over calling yourself the Wolfpack. The Jesuit school has called itself the Wolfpack for more than a half-century, but N.C. State says it owns the exclusive legal right to use the name and logo.” Next!

Wofford cleaning out the dog house

Goodbye – “Two more Wofford football players have been kicked off the team and out of school, bringing the total number to five since the beginning of February. “They broke the rules, team rules,” Wofford head Mike Ayers said. “And they were dismissed from school as well.” The other three were deleted due to either first-degree burglary and grand larceny charges(!), or violating the school’s honor code.

Baseball thread – Doubleheader Friday

App State and Cornell play back-to-back games today, as impending Mother Nature actions force the contraction of the series. App State won Game 1, 8-3, in a game marked with high wind and below zero chills. Ahhhhh … baseball weather. Game 2 today at 2.
