Kendall Lamm is red shirt freshman. Should probably designate those separate from the true freshman.

Looking at VT's depth chart they dont appear on paper to be that much bigger.

Roster heights and weights are inflated.

We have two freshmen on our QB's blind side.

We have been getting some really good recruits the past few years, I'm not too worried about the young players. It's not like we don't have juniors and seniors, the young bucks are just beating them for the starting spots.

They are beating out upper classmen to win the position. Nobody ever argues that about freshmen. Generally with freshmen it is more to do with the fact they have no experience in game time situations. First game will be in front of the largest crowd they will see all season. Not playing on Friday anymore.

mr pelican your beak holds more than your belly can.

If upper classmen were better they would be starting.

give the boys a couple of seriers before you start throwing them under the bus.

truth is we match up with VT pretty well, and we will be better conditioned.

My beak is money, Russ. You say I'm jumping the gun, but then you make this blind statement:

truth is we match up with VT pretty well, and we will be better conditioned.

You have no way of knowing which team is better conditioned until, as you pointed out for me, they have each played "a couple series".

It's true that we don't know about Tech's conditioning. But it's pretty safe to say that in 3 of the last 4 year's season openers we were the better conditioned team. The exception being @ LSU when both teams seemed to suffer in the oppressive morning heat ahead of Hurricane Gustav.

Deckerz North Myrtle Beach is carrying the game. If anyone wants to watch APPSTATE beat the Hokies and then watch JMU beat some other team in NC and then wonder down to the OCEAN to take a dip and relax knowing you are the luckiest person in the world to have an APPSTATE Education.

My statement is not blind. they have a young dfence and although our left side is young they are bigboys, and we have a triple threat with presley, cadet and quick. with very good 2 stringers. We have one of the best conditioning programs in all of D1 sports, not just D1AA, and the reason VT got beat in their first 2 games last year was due to conditioning. They fizzeled in the 4th quarter to Boise, and could not recover from that game fast enogh to play JMU to the best of their ability. Will VT learn from their mistakes…maybe. But there were no changes in the conditioning staff at VT, so I doubt they will train any different. BTW, the beak belly thing is just a childrens rhyme and meant no harm. Sorry if that offended you.

    August 30, 2011 at 11:31 am

as for conditioning, it was quite obvious in 2007 that the Apps were better conditioned than those other guys… and after that result, i firmly believe there will not be another opportunity for us to "sneak up" on a team that will underestimate us… VT will be ready, and so will we…

Utilization Ben Jordon at TE for quick dumps will be key in this game. He is underutilized and always open.

    August 30, 2011 at 11:57 am

One frosh o-lineman beat out another freshmen. The other beat out Sherman Holt (who is undersized and always felt like just John's brother).

Blair, at defensive end, beat out Anthony Wilson. Although, I kinda wish they'd bump Wylie out to end and put Aiken on the nose, but I am just guessing.

People have been freaking out on Bobo and he's 1 of 4 "starting" receivers. We also have listed a starting tight end and running back. We've always done it that way, but just remember that we have 12 "starters" on offense.

The hokie article says a true freshman will start at center in place of the projected starter due to injury, and their Sr. right tackle (DeChristopher) will miss the first few games due to a leg injury, so those guys have issues along the O-line as well. If Wylie can rattle that young center and we can blitz them up the middle, our guys can do some damage. Plus, they have 3 sophomores starting on the d-line that didn't start last year, which could bode well for our inexperienced line. Got to admit, I'm a little more encouraged after looking at their depth chart. The guy that scares me the most is Boykins – the WR from Charlotte that is a player. But he's got a new QB throwing to him… I'm such a freakin optimist.

Totally agree Midwest about utilizing Jorden more. Also, just one thing… Based on experience with previous matchups with FBS oppponents, and the reactions to said matchups by certain people on this board, I have a request…Even if we don't pull out an upset, can we remain positive about our team's chances this season? I know better based on experience, but it would be nice not to have to read 7,000 comments on why we are not ready to move up because we lost to Va Tech, we don't deserve all the great new facilities, we're too big for our britches, etc. Just sayin. Win or lose this game, I feel pretty confident about this season…especially the new defense. Go Apps!

Section 212, the Hokies starting center is a sophomore. The freshmen is now the backup due to injury. The article indicates that he has moved to the #2 position.

For us to have a chance, our defense will need to play outstanding because I don't think we'll score many points on the offensive side. Perhaps (hopefully), I'm wrong, but I'm not sure the O Line is up to the task.

Laugh at my suggestions, but Jorden may be playing in the NFL next year and we have not UTILIZED his talents. He is a force and we always seem to forget about him in big games. I would probably go to him as much or more than B.Quick as chances are that Jorden is open and Quick is covered.

I can't believe it but Mark Legree is looking like a long shot to make the final roster in Seattle. Sounds like the lockout really hurt him. Read an interview with him from two days ago and it read like he is resigned to whatever fate has for him….not good. Clayton, about your earlier post, Wylie will be at the nose and Gordy at the end. Aiken will back-up Wylie. I expect to see Shuemake and Tani at the ends at times as well.

Others posted about the the two freshmen on the o-line. Yes they did beat out a frosh and Holt. They actually would probably not be starting except for the injuries to Bostick and Dufort. The feeling was that they would be starting at the tackles and Xan would have taken the left guard spot.

Also the frosh on the d-line did beat out Anthony, a senior who has always looked good before battling a lot of injuries, and William Corbin. Corbin was the projected starter but did not impress during camp. He seemed to me to always play high and get pushed around, but thats coachable and he will be better, hopefully this year. Blair looked good in what I saw and I know the coaches have been impressed since day 1.

How the lines play will dictate what kind of year we have. I think this is 35-20 game.
