Into the fire. “Four freshmen are expected to start on defense Saturday against Wofford.”

Panicked question of the week. “Is the dynasty in Boone over?”

Wofford says it’s ready. “Probably the best thing that has happened to us is playing Clemson in our second ball game, because that speed and skill is similar to what App State will have.”

Real triple-triple threat. “For the first time in school history, Wofford had three players rush for at least 100 yards in a 45-14 home win last October against Western Carolina.”

Blame game continues in ‘Nooga. “I don’t want to say this to be mean,” Huesman said, “… but it was our receivers.”

All up in his grill. Superman at work. And gettin’ it done.

Grading the Panther special teams – “Punt returner Armanti Edwards caught the ball despite staring into the raindrops a couple of times.”

Hmmmmm. “The likelihood of an eventual Conference USA-Mountain West Conference merger is appearing more realistic.”

Meanwhile, in the Stink. “Baker downplayed the notion that Georgia Southern and Appalachian State could go to a FBS conference as a package deal.”

Made us giggle. “My wife went to Appalachian State. She’s not much of a sports fan, so when App State beat Michigan in football, I had to tell her it was the greatest moment in the history of her school, and give her trash talking points.”

Obviously, this Keith Jarrett fella hasnt a clue. He has Wofford beating App by 4. Reasonable prediction, since it's just that….a prediction.

But what really tells me that this guy doesnt know anything is that he has GT only beating NC State by 8…cmon man!…more like 28.

With that said, i don't put any clout in this guys predictions.

I think it is encouraging and frightening at the same time that we have so many freshmen playing on defense. What makes it scary is that these guys have not seen this type of offense, so it will be interesting to see how they respond. Its going to take discipline for them to keep gap integrity and stay with their assignments even when it initially appears the ball is not coming their way.

Last year before the Wofford game, all I heard about was how Breitenstein wanted to come back to Boone his hometown and show ASU something. He did absolutely nothing. I wonder if he is able to contribute more this year.

As far as conference realignment, its an interesting concept to have a ConfUSA/Mountain West alignment, this may keep some of the better teams in those conferences to stick around.

Jarrett does not like App State for some reason. Any time you read an article he writes about App, you can feel the negativity and hate. Maybe its cause we have pounded his beloved Catamounts so much here lately.

A nation-wide conference. Hmmm. A sort of 'catch-all' conference for those schools that want the 'prestige' (and obligations) of 1A football, but aren't really capable of actually being 1A. An un-official 'second tier' within FBS.

I thought the whole idea behind a conference was to join schools within a reasonable proximity so that over time you could develop rivalries, attend away games and 'get to know' your opponents pretty well. CUSA is already spread out all over creation; combining with the Mountain West only makes that worse, not better.

It's hard to take this idea seriously.

    loveithere:

I think you may have that backwards. Jarrett has written a lot of positive articles about App.

If you talk to the Cantamounts, they all HATE him. They see it the way you wrote it in reverse. Now, there really has been nothing good to write about WCU in recent times, so seeing your statement gave me a good laugh.

"The Bucs plan on rotating Corey Lynch and Larry Asante at free safety going forward.

Starter Cody Grimm (knee) is done for the season, leaving his two backups to battle. Defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake said that "if one of them is real hot, then I'll stick with that guy." The good news for the Bucs is that neither one will be tested by the Colts' inept passing game Monday night."

Carbine, this suggest merger of CUSA and Mountain West does not mean that all of the teams will fly to whichever part of the country to play each other all season. This new conference will have two divisions, with the winner of (CUSA and Mountain West) playing each other for the BCS bowl birth. So it's actually a pretty fun idea, but this isn't a new rumor. This suggested merger of CUSA and Mountain West has been floating around for a quite a while.

I think CUSA would be a great fit for App, but I've heard our AD's phone has been ringing off the hook with calls from the both ACC and Big 10 though…

For the ACC, I've heard it was a tough expansion decision for them, as it came down to either us or Pitt/Rutgers.

    /Just kidding.

Still can't figure out why we aretrying so hard to get into CUSA so we can have a rivalry with ECU when they are trying even harder to get out.

With that said we have a much bigger problem and it is called Wofford.

    What was the encouraging part?

  11. Reese

    September 29, 2011 at 8:34 am

Well, I'm just trying to extrapolate here… Maybe the encouraging part is that the freshman are good enough to start on defense as they are part of one of the best recruiting classes here a ASU so far.

The discouraging part, well…is that they are freshman playing against a complicated TO attack. This requires a tremendous amount of discipline, I can't express that enough. But, we shall see come saturday.

I'm predicting over 250 rushing yards for woff.

    bcoach,

The encouraging part of having so many freshman start is that you know they are going to keep learning and betting better. In one of the articles Moore said that he feels this is the best freshman class he has ever had. I guess time will tell.

“It involves us putting together all of the football assets from both conferences into one new football conference that would span five time zones and involve 24 teams."

Yeah that sounds like a real good idea… not. Seriously I don't want to watch an ECU game which airs at 7:00 AM… I'm sure all teams involved would save significantly on their travel budgets

Even with all the freshmen on the field on defense last week the tackling was very solid. The Apps were wrapping up tackles and gang tackling rather that launching themselves going for the highlight hit. I loved what I saw last week and hope that quality of tackling continues. I would expect Wofford to get their 250 on the ground but limit their passing effectiveness/big plays and the Apps can/should win. Open the offense up and let em have it…use our speed and size advantage to move the ball and score. go Apps!

I'll worry about C-USA after the playoffs.

ASU LAW, if you're on the east coast, why would you be watching an ECU game at 7 am?

The CUSA teams would be in one division, while the mountain west teams would play in the other. While the winner of each would play each other in a championship game to see who gets the BCS bowl birth.

Certainly, teams from both divisions would play a team from the other division once or twice a year, but there wouldn't be continuous coast to coast traveling like everyone is implying.

People, you can't possibly believe that these schools' ADs would put together a conference that would require their schools to continuously fly around the county every weekend. Cmon guys. You're not smarter than the colleges' ADs. I promise they are well aware of travel budgets. Get off your high horses.

Where is the link to the 3 clown reporters from the Citadel, Nooga, and Elon who all picked against App State this past week against Chattanooga?

I am sure they are all picking Wooford to win this week.

One idea was a pod sytem with Conference USA haveing an East and West a divisional championship for Conference USA and then a BCS Birth Game with Conference USA and Mountain West. If we could get into that that would make for PERFECT football for AppState. We would have only 6 conference games which leaves many ooc play to line up other local Rivalries.

    Marshall

    ECU

    AppState

    Georgia SOuthern

    UAB

    Memphis

    OOC

    Richmond

    William and Mary

    Duke

    Wake Forest

    Western Carolina

maybe NotreDame, NAVY, South Carolina at Charlotte, Montana, Clemson, South Florida, Central Florida, WVU.

We would have a great schedule and somewhat of a playoff. (if we win our Division)
