Wofford’s D actually looks pretty good

we hate orangeEarlier this week, Woeford head coach Mike Ayers said App State reminded him of another squad his dogs recently challenged.

Specifically, the Black and Gold looks, to him, like a whole lotta orange.

“Probably the best thing that has happened to us is playing Clemson in our second ball game, because that speed and skill is similar to what App State will have.”

Seeing as how Clemson is 4-0 with a win over the defending national BCS champion, we consider that a compliment.

Wofford played at Clemson in the second week of the season. The dogs led after one, 14-13, and were tied 21-all at the half before fading 35-27.

Clemson gained a so-far season-low 261 passing yards in that game, about 55 yards below season average. By comparison, they went for 386 against Auburn and 344 against Florida State.

Wofford limited Clemson to a total of 476 yards. That broke down to a 6.7 yard per play average, roughly a yard more than App gave up per play against NC A&T.

Even more impressive, or foreboding, in that game was how good Wofford was defensively on third downs. In 15 such attempts, Clemson got a first down just 7(!) times. Against Auburn, Clemson was 14 of 18 on third downs.

At one point, just before halftime, two different Terriers scored back-to-back sacks to force a 3rd and 26. A punt followed.

Later in the game, with under six minutes to go and Wofford down 7, Clemson ran on a 3rd and 3. And got just 2. The runner was Andre Ellington, who had 165 yards in the game and is fourth in the ACC in rushing at 93 a game. Another punt.

That’s pressure D right there.

Wofford has played only two other teams, Presbyterian and Lil Sammy. But against their FBSer, they were pretty dog gone good.

Give ’em hell!

Here's the link to the new SoCon network. This is a big step up? I'm in Greensboro and I'm going to have to dig out the bunny ears to pick it up on a spare old tv. The game's not on Dish in Greensboro! Fox Sports sure looks good from here.

DP will have to get it in GEAR!!!!Our D is not going to be able to win this game w/o our offense…….This one scares me….

We have to have a balanced attack , few mistakes(Turnovers and penilties) and a dose of luck!!!!

Wofford has been giving up an average of 360 yards per game, 287 in the air. They have failed to hold anyone below 200 yards passing. They are stingier on the ground. They have also been giving up 28.7 points per game.

If DP has less than 2 pick's in this game, consider it a positive! The O fense certainly seems capable of winning the MEAC, but I don't know about the SoCon!

    Iambhooper,

He won plenty of socon games last season, and didn't lose last weeks game(he didn't win it either). But the offense is certainly capable of winning in the socon
