Incoming – The one we couldn’t resist

Keep it real! fight the power! down with nukes!Awww … look. There’s an Occupy Elon. So cute! – “(Some) elon folks not sure if elon is an appropriate place for an occupy. in part, this comes from our context of being at a private institution and having a student population containing folks who are economically comfortable or wealthy.” That makes as much sense as arguing personal versus private property. Fish, barrel, we know. But still, so cute! We wonder, they have a bat signal yet? Or scared the snot outta some kids? Fight the power! /raises fist

Remember when they used to do that on the steps of B.B. Dougherty with bicycle locks?

An App blog is the last place that I would bash a school for having of OWS protesters. As much as I disagree with what the OWS people are doing,I saw way more protesters at my time in Boone then in Elon. Elon is a liberal arts school…think about it. Besides, I could count the number of protesters here on my hands. Being born into wealth does not mean that you are automatically a money hungry conservative. These Elon kids will probably do more then a majority of the TB/THC infested OWS protesters will. IE, they will have jobs soon. I'm not defending Elon, just stating my point of view as a resident of Elon, an App alum, and a future Elon grad student…While this is the first and my favorite site that I check every day, it maddens me to read the continual bashing of not only Elon, but many of the schools we play, typically the private schools. Show a little more class. That being said, I'll be at the game this weekend wearing BLACK AND GOLD!

I don't think Appfan is bashing Elon, I think anyone can see the irony in private school kids protesting about the 1%. Lighten up a little. Show up wearing that atrocious red if you want, I don't care, but we can make fun of all the private/public/Socon schools we want to. Get over it.

This is great – the entire OWS movement is ironic.

After graduating from ASU, I was fortunate enough to get into a great B-School and now, oh no, I'm a bond trader – evil, right?

Anyway, I was back at my grad school a few weeks back and decided to stop in on their OWS crowd, wearing my nice suit…I stopped, started chatting.

"What do you do?" "I have my MBA from here and I work on Wall Street. I'm going to speak to the MBA class."

Uncomfortable silence, then we started joking around and I said "I've gotta go." I hear footsteps coming behind me. Expected a cheap shot, I wheel around. Kid says "hey man, I'm just here for the beer and the freaky chics. Can you help me get a job?"

He has my card – love that guy.

I'm with StorminASU on this one, a majority of bloggers on this site show incredible respect for our opponents. Part of having a rivalry is to compare teams, even teams that have not been very successful as of late.

As for the Occupy movement at a private institution, very ironic and it is certainly worth blogging about. I can see the relationship, those kids on one hand take from their hard working parents and turn around and ask for more of others hard earned money. Instead of partying late, sleeping in, and being a total waste of a person I spent countless hours in the library so I could go to grad school and make something of myself. Instead of working a 9-5 job so I could "get by", i worked hard to obtain a job where I could make something of myself. I spend at least 12 hours a day grinding away AND working even harder outside of work to develop relationships. Now that "99%" (a completely skewed stat.) who currently take over 1/3 of my paycheck want even a larger cut of it so they can continue to sit on their asses in the very same apartment complex and play MW3 all day and eat McDonalds. When will people realize that you have to work to eat, work to sustain yourself, work to SURVIVE..that government forced handouts to those who don't even attempt to help themselves is WRONG. Now don't misconstrue, I'm all for government programs, (vets, student loans, temporary short term unemployment, healthcare, etc) but enough is enough. Lets stimulate the economy by pulling programs that force inappropriate govt. handouts and making people work.

ASU-LAW: Comparing schools yes, I am all for it. Taking a jab and individual people/athletes/groups that deserve to be made fun of yes (see Elon's running back Jamal Shuul. His tweets were hilarious.) But saying that all the kids that go to private schools are rich kids who sit around and collect money from their parents, no. That would be like saying that all kids who go to App are lazy hippies. Which we all know is not true. Elon/Wofford/Furman are very tough schools to get into, and the majority of these kids worked hard to get accepted.

So, Germs, it is ok to make fun of whatever you agree with and otherwise it is inappropriate?

Where did you read AppFan say "all the kids that go to private schools are rich kids…"?

What kind of idiot comes on an App blog and defends Elon..?

Appfantoo: read what Appfan wrote "Awww … look. There’s an Occupy Elon. So cute! – “(Some) Elon folks not sure if Elon is an appropriate place for an occupy. in part, this comes from our context of being at a private institution and having a student population containing folks who are economically comfortable or wealthy.” That makes as much sense as arguing personal versus private property."

Some key words in that paragraph. " Our context," economically confortable," and "wealthy."

I said that if a person/group/athlete from another school does something that deserves to be made fun of then yes, in school spirit it is ok to. But taking jabs at at individual people who represent something larger and assuming that all associated with that oraganization are the same, then no. Your comment is absurd.

This "Occupy" situation is as big of a joke as elon's football program. Neither will accomplish anything of value.

Let's get this straight – within the context of AppFan.com, individual people who represent Elon suck .. we don't like them or anything they represent. Just like those who represent the stink, furple, the whee, etc…

Perhaps you should occupy another website – they probably miss you at moveon.org.

Appfantoo, you are not going to get very far in life. If you read the first paragraph of my first post, you would see that I completely dissagree with the OWS movement. Here, I'll help you out since you obviously cannot read.

I stated "As much as I disagree with what the OWS people are doing, I saw way more protesters at my time in Boone then in Elon. Elon is a liberal arts school…think about it. Besides, I could count the number of protesters here on my hands. Being born into wealth does not mean that you are automatically a money hungry conservative. These Elon kids will probably do more then a majority of the TB/THC infested OWS protesters will. IE, they will have jobs soon."

    You are a moron.

Hey Germs, hate to break it to ya. But, I used to work at Elon, and most of the stereotypes mentioned are true…not much of an intellectual environment, pretty superficial, and somewhat high schoolish acting students, for the most part…partly due to the overwhelming amount of status seeking Greek life kids who care more about shopping than learning…just sayin…

Some people on here must love to hear themselves talk even more than they love to read their own words in type.

I simply can't stand Elon. Their SoCon inclusion several years ago, as much as any other factor, made me want ASU to move up and out of this increasingly watered down conference.

We're better than Elon. Period. And I'm not just talking about football.

    AhhhGerms,

The portion of the paragraph and the specific words you took exception to are a quote from one of the "organizers" of the Elon OWS thingy. It's taken from the Facebook page.
