SoCon bball tourneys are set

Depressing. Darcie Vincent has become the new Buzz Peterson v1.0. Beating all the teams she should, but losing to the really good ones. /sigh. Her second-place Apps play Saturday against winner between the ‘Whee and Stink. Meanwhile, the long depressing men’s team plays CofC to open the tournament Friday morning at 11:30. Winner plays North No. 1 seed UNCG Saturday.

App State wrestlers rule the SoCon

The best – “The SoCon wrestling all-conference team and postseason awards are highlighted by four wrestlers from App State, including SoCon Wrestler of the Year Kyle Blevins. After winning its first regular season championship since 2003, App State placed a league-high four wrestlers on the teams. Blevins was joined by fellow seniors Mike Kessler (141 pounds), Savva Kostis (149) and Austin Trotman (184).”

Tipoff – This one’s for a title

This one’s big. App State takes on ‘Nooga live on ESPN3 tonight. A win makes the Mountaineers SoCon regular season champs. A loss puts App State at the mercy of Lil Sammy, who plays second place Davidson. A D-Cat win/App loss combo puts Vincent’s Victors in second place. Drama! – “It all comes down to this-40 mins of play stand between us and 1st place. How bad do you want it? What are you willing to sacrifice for it?” . . . → Read More: Tipoff – This one’s for a title

‘Have to be careful about not falling in love with ourselves too much

The Tiger tamers rolled into town late last night. And a crowd welcomed ‘em home.

Good times.

So, what do two early-season victories against the nation’s No. 7 team mean for the Mountaineers, who were picked to finish fifth in the Southern Conference by league coaches?

“I think that’s a great question,” Pollard said. “Obviously, if we don’t go out and back it up, it doesn’t mean much other than it winds up being just a great weekend. . . . → Read More: ‘Have to be careful about not falling in love with ourselves too much

At Bat – App State at LSU

It’s early, but only two of 11 SoCon teams are below .500 right now. in fact, the SoCon’s early 30-11 record is third best in the country, behind West Coast and SEC. Here’s looking to a great diamond season!

DP and Quick combine and the Combine

The NFL scouting combine is upon us. It’s that one special time of the year when grown men can acceptably stare obsessively at sweaty young men college kids can show off what they got.

As noted, two Apps are among the specimens. One was expected. The other, not so much.

Give. Them. Hell!

It was 26-19 at the half.

Another FCSer wants to make like the Jeffersons

Research – “Georgia State announced on its official athletic site today that it commissioned a consulting group, Collegiate Consulting, to conduct a study regarding the feasibility of a move to 1-A football. The Panthers just completed their second season in football at the 1-AA level in the CAA. It just so happens that new Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson said conference expansion would be one of his first priorities.
