Don't Miss

At bat – App State at Elon

HeaterNo. 29 ranked App State is perfect in SoCon play. One caveat – all six games were played in Boone. Today comes the first road test of the league season, at Elon. The burning birds are 12-10 overall, 6-3 in league. The Apps continue having league’s best overall record at 17-3. But the SoCon looks tough. How tough? Well played dogs. Well. Played.

Beat the fElons. Too bad Riddle isn't there to start a fight and then run to the dugout as his team brawls in his stead. I wonder if he will be in attendance or if he's still passed out on some random driveway in Greensboro somewhere.

Ya it's fine baseball is a game where you lose some. And if you have read the articles like a sane person you realize it's worked out for the better. And if you watched the mens bball team play and liked what you saw your nuts

Beginning to feel uncomfortably like prior years–win early games, lose mid- and late-season, especially in conference. We allowed 21 runs in the two losses to Elon. Those are softball scores, not baseball.

The past is the past and let's hope it stays that way, another year like the last two "start strong and end up winning 30 plus games and a second or thrid round defeat in SoCon Tourney, can we really do any better, and it that all the Cobb and the rest of the Athletic ZDepartment hope to achieve under Pollard?

Not giving up on them yet, coach Morris who I played under from 92-96 is on board and the season is early let's start raising more hell at the mid point of the season and see where we stand? With all that damn "talent" we should not falter in the SoCon Conference and Playoff race this year? Only time will tell?

We Beat South Carolina LSU in seris games and we can not even beat a 12-10 overall team come on guys?

Is there a clause in Pollard's Contract that if he contyinues to win 30+ games a year his job will be safe, only time will tell, all the records that have been broken since he has been there are great, but where are the championships he has been there what 8 years now and no championships to speak of, is there not something wrong with this picture, only time will tell if the 30+ games a year is enough to keep him as head coach? I am still on board but by mid season we should know where we stand in 2012 an start comparing to the other 7 seasons, there is improvement for sure, but will that be enough in the long run?

Appalachian95, I played at App under the Heustess era. To see where Pollard has taken this team from then is amazing. Unfortunately, most players look at Boone and say "I hate playing baseball in snow". "I can go to UNCW and play baseball on the beach" or CofC players say the same thing. We are battling weather conditions and a recent history of losing a lot of games a year. When I was there, we never won more than 16 games and never made it to the SOCON tournament. I think you have to throw Pollards records out for the first two years bc he was playing Heustess's team. Heustess once told a recruit "we don't recruit the best players, we recruit the best people" WTF???? I understand recruiting good people but you need good players to win. You can find those two qualities in one person. He was a joke and Pollard has done a great job to rid his records in school history. Sign Pollard to an extension please!!!!!

Tell me we are not beating the drums again on questioning another coach….Pollard has proven what he can do and is a hot commodity. Sign him now and make him happier.

A disappointing finale but overall, nothing to be overly concerned about at this point. Elons' 14-11 record does not look all that impressive until you consider they've played the 19th toughest schedule in the country.

Look at their 7 OOC losses: South Carolina (3), Clemson (2), UNC and NC State. They are now 8-4 in conference, losing a series on the road to them is nothing to hang our heads about. Take care of business at home this week and win the series with C of C at home next weekend and we will be just fine.

Anyone who saw our program when we were the laughing stock of the Socon compared to what it is today shouldn't be worried about when we win the Socon but how long can we keep Pollard as our head coach before he is hired away by a bigger school with more baseball tradition. Pollard has done an unbelievable job with our baseball program!

  32. appdreamin

    March 26, 2012 at 9:53 am

Dave, my bet would be Pollard and all other minor sports (i. e., every sport other than football and men's basketball) coaches at App are quite safe from any concerted "fire the coach" campaigns. Interest just isn't broad or deep enough for something like that to happen on a large scale.

  33. asumike83

    March 26, 2012 at 10:15 am

If Pollard leaves Boone, it will be because he was hired away by a school with more money. He has done an amazing job with our baseball program and has more than earned his job security.

Now, it is time to take care of business this week so we can be on a new winning streak when Charleston comes up the mountain next weekend! If we can take 2 of 3 from the Cougars, we will be positioned very nicely in the SoCon.

Sucks we dropped that series to Elon, I hope our boys get fired up again and get on another big streak. Unfortunately these two losses will certainly knock us out of the national rankings, hopefully we climb back by the end of the year!

  35. bcoach

    March 26, 2012 at 1:12 pm

Fire the guy. He is a coach at App State so he should be fired. we are ASU fans we want all coaches fired. I say the first loss for any coach just fire them and get another. These damn coaches are making our lives miserable. In fact I say from now on we go without coaches!! Save all that money for better locker rooms.

better yet use the money for free beer at all tailgates.
