The nationally ranked, SoCon champion, No. 1 seed, totally rockin’ App State baseball team begins its quest to add to that lengthy title today.

Coach Chris Pollard of the Mountaineers said that a follow-up is anything but a given in a tough league ranked seventh nationally among 31 Division I conferences.
“There are a lot of teams in our league that are playing really well right now, and really any of them No. 1 through No. 8 is capable of winning the tournament,” Pollard said. “We’re certainly proud to be that No. 1 seed, but at the same time we know we have our hands full.
“We’re facing a team in Furman right off that’s the host team, that’s very used to playing in that stadium and has played well in that stadium, and they have a very good No. 1 starter that we’re going to see.”
Only two wins separated the top four teams in the regular-season race. ASU and College of Charleston tied for first place at 21-9. Elon was 20-10, and Samford 19-11.
There’s already been an upset. El Cid took out co-champ CofC, 8-6, in 11 innings.

Unbelievable Furman must not have any closing pitchers worth a damn, leading 5-1 in the 6th inning come on now, another come from behind victory, we will take any kind of win we can get and CofC getting there 1st loss in double elimination that is great, I would like to see our team start strong and get the lead instead of having to always play catch-up that will come back to bite us in the butt if we are not careful and take care of business like we should, great start let's keep it rolling!

Let's face it. Who watches or listens to the baseball games? I know I wish I did but I don't. I ready about half of the articles on either SoCon.com or GoASU.com. I wish I made the effort to see them play when they are only about an hour away on a lot of road games but I don't. I'd call myself a fairly knowledgeable baseball fan, but that doesn't make me any kind of real knowledgeable App baseball fan. If you are like me (and if you don't even knwo the score then you sure don't know what happened in the game) then chill out on dropping in little comments to make it seem like you actually pay attention to more than the final score. We all thank you for gracing the fellow readers and posters with your profound wisdom about the sport with comments like we should allow fewer runs and blowing leads make it harder to win.

The live stats being used are the Furman live stats. They show Furman as the home team. Yesterday we were Furman because as the higher seed we were the home team.
You might be surprised how many folks do follow App baseball either online or thru live stats.

I listened to the game (it was Furman's radio announcers). I was wondering why the score was backwards on the stats..thanks hapapp. I can certainly see how someone just checking the stats would get confused.
I hope the game gets started on time this evening. We are scheduled to play Samford at 8:00.
It is a shame our baseball team doesn't get better support(I include myself in that statement). They are a lot of fun to watch. I'm not he biggest fan, but I did make it to five games. If you haven't seen our guys play and can get to Greenville, they put on a good show.

Thank you for that, hapapp. Based on Gwalt's comment about our leading the entire game, I was beginning to believe I'd misread the live stats on the SoCon site yesterday evening. Essentially, I suppose I did.
