Trotman named SoCon best

The Best

Congrats!

Appalachian State wrestler Austin Trotman was named the 2012 Southern Conference Male Athlete of the Year the league announced today.

Trotman was named the Bob Waters Male Athlete of the Year following a senior season in which the Winston-Salem, N.C., native earned All-America honors. He placed third at the NCAA championships after being named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the SoCon Championship.

After posting an undefeated regular season in the Southern Conference, Trotman became a three-time individual champion at the SoCon Championships by winning the 184-pound crown in 2012. He finished the year with 38 wins, the second highest single-season total at ASU.

His efforts helped the Mountaineers earn their first regular season SoCon crown since 2003. At the NCAA championships, Trotman defeated the top-three ranked wrestlers at 184 to earn All-America status and give the Mountaineers their best national finish in 20 years. Trotman finished his career as ASU’s all-time leader in wins with 129.

A communications major with a minor in sociology, Trotman is enrolled in the 2012 Southeastern Seminary graduate program. He served as the president of ASU’s SAAC and has mentored wrestlers ages 11-17 as an instructor and clinician.

He had a great run at the NCAAs.

Trotman is the fifth Mountaineer in the past eight years to win the award. He’s also the first wrestler in SoCon history to claim it.

REAL trout live in fresh water!

Hard to believe Edwards won this award only once, even if his career did roughly mirror that of Curry at Davidson.

In addition to being the first wrestler to win male athlete of the year the award, he is the only non-football player in the App five-of-eight run Appfan mentions above.

Third paragraph above . . . "he" refers to Trotman, not Edwards. That's rather obvious, I guess, but nevertheless that sentence is poorly worded.

No i used to wrestle before college, elementary school through HS. I use to whoop up on Rick Flair's (WWF guy) kid back when I lived in Raleigh.

    Anyhow congrats Trotman.

Freshwater trout don't live in muddy-bottomed locations and definitely do not taste like mud. You apparently aren't a fisherman; otherwise, you'd know that.

Besides, who says the only enjoyment derived from fishing is eating the catch?

You've apparently never been on a mountain trout stream if you think crappie and rainbow trout live in the same waters (trout waters are too cold to suit most panfish–i. e, crappie, et. al.–as well as most bass, especially large mouths). Actually, since you don't even know how to spell crappie, you may know next to nothing about them; it's clear you know nothing about mountain trout.

By the way, in mountain terminology, locals refer to one species of freshwater trout (for which the proper name is brook) as "speckled." Native locals, that is–not imports like me.

    JMcC–with fly rod?

Claim all the sarcasm you want, you still don't know what you're talking about. I'd say you're the dumbass.

See? I can spell that word, too–apparently you're too gutless to do so.

Oh, dreamin, you're full of warm, muddy , crappy crappie. Ya see, I said it! Go fish…..
