I know it's comforting to think we have 2 games to win, but we need to leave it all out there in the first game. Momentum is a crazy thing

The OU coach stated prior to the tournament that he thought his team was the favorite because of their pitching depth that would allow them to go deeper into his staff. We are thin in that area. We've really only had two reliable starters and our bullpen has been the weakest aspect of this team. Game 1 has brought this to the fore.

It will be interesting to see how we respond in Game 2.

This team is amazing. They have gone from the cellar of the SoCon when Pollard inherited this program to a team that is competing at a high national level. Great Job App State and great job to Pollard for what he has done to this program. We played with the "Big Boys" and beat most of them. Nothing to hang your head on. Stay proud and lets do this next year. Stay hungry and work hard this off season. Its great to be a Mountaineer!!!

  88. appalachian95

    June 4, 2012 at 9:34 pm

I agree great season, nothing to hold down your heads about that is for sure, I hope that the recruiting will be prone on searching for some "starting" pitching, that is what we need, the bullpen did great at times, but overall not that assured that they can come off the bench and do what is needed game in and game out, evident of all the walks, balks, and era for the bullpen overall, we put up a great fight against Oklahoma but granted there bullpen was better than ours in the long run or late innings, great season, and let's train hard over the summer or off season and do this again next year, hopefully this season will not be a "fluke" and we can come back stronger than this year? As a formaer player I am really proud of the 2012 baseball team they accomplished and broke alot of records this year that had not been done in over 25 years, really that long now let's hope the football team can bring it this season with a complete turn around from last season, although any team would like to have a 8-4 record each season but not a 2-2 record on away games? Go Mountaineers!!!

    June 5, 2012 at 2:24 am

That's baseball. You're only as good as today's starting pitcher. Wish the defense had been a little better. But, as noted, a great season and I agree with appfantoo about the need to keep our coach.

If all you new fans are serious about these comments stroke a check to the Dugout Club and help these kids and coaches out. Their budget so low former players and supporters bought them bench jackets this year and even a full set of uniforms (the white ones) years past. The team still plays in one set that are at least 5 years old and routinely hits the field in pants that have been patched up. All while our awe inspiring basketball program gets new uni's and travel gear every year. Sad.

  97. hapapp

    June 5, 2012 at 5:30 pm

I'm glad our baseball program has reached the heights it has and I certainly think we are capable of keeping it there. However, I hate it when we start pitting one sport against the other. It wasn't long ago our baseball program was "awe inspiring" as well. Celebrate the success by lauding what was accomplished not bashing other programs.

  98. AppMan

    June 5, 2012 at 6:54 pm

No one is pitting one sport against the other. You just get defensive whenever something a little negative is written about the men's basketball program. Facts are facts. Might as well face it. Baseball does not come close to getting the level of funding as out other major sports. It wasn't long ago the baseball program was awe inspiring? Really? Before this season ASU won 2 conference championships and makde the NCAA tournament one time in school history. Is that awe inspiring in your book? Nice try.

  99. appthunder90

    June 5, 2012 at 9:00 pm

i think it was a play on your use of "awe-inspiring" to describe the basketball team

  100. appdreamin

    June 7, 2012 at 10:21 am

Baseball is clearly a major sport at the professional level. But it isn't really a major sport at the college level by any reasonable means of evaluation/comparison–attendance, money (as in revenue generation), publicity, media coverage, etc. In most schools, baseball and soccer are probably the two most important "minor" sports, but minor they still are. Most schools have two truly "major" sports; at App, we really have only one.

Major/minor distinctions aside, I agree with the idea that on the basis of productivity baseball at App ranks way ahead of men's basketball. And no App team should have to wear patched uniforms. I also agree with AppMan's thought (another thread, I believe) that it is well past time for App to drop M&W golf and M&W tennis, maybe along with some of our other more minor, minor sports. Fielding 20 teams may be a nice-to-have, but it certainly isn't a necessity, especially if we can't fully fund every one.

  101. bcoach

    June 9, 2012 at 3:38 pm

Actually golf and tennis are sports that have a future pro possibility. They also offer the possibility of becoming teaching pros. I think wrestling and field hockey could go. We sure would never want an APP grad to be a pro wrestler(:
