Don't Miss

The day after the season ended

love you guysHeartbreak – “ASU, which ended the season 41-18 and with a school record number of wins, was in the regional’s driver seat after beating Oklahoma in its opener on Saturday and then top-seeded Virginia on Sunday. “This stings a lot,” said senior Daniel Kassouf of ASU, a former North Davidson player who hit 17 home runs this season. “But it was a great season. It was a great ride getting here, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”” Much love to all the Mountaineers for a fun, historic season.

Great Season boys!! Now get rid of those Rec league looking uniforms that you wore Monday and get some decent looking digs. Those are awful.

  8. TriadAppFan

    June 5, 2012 at 9:29 am

Yogi, those uniforms were designed by a player on this team. Have some compassion for this team they played their butts off this year. Great season guys! Keep working hard and setting records in those uniforms.

I haven't been a fan of the alternative uniform look, either, but apparently the players like them. My preference is a more traditional look, but I care far less what they wear than how they play.

There was an Appfan thread about the player-developed design a month or two ago.

Great season guys. Coach Pollard used to coach at the local college here (Pfeiffer) and has been known as a class act the whole time I've been around him. I hope we can keep him a while.

Just a great story all-around. It's great to be a Mountaineer!

Time to drop tennis, golf, and the other non productive sports and put the money in baseball. Before you go ballistic ask yourself do any of those programs compete and win against the top conferences in the nation? Nope.

    June 5, 2012 at 3:34 pm

ASU should be eliminated from logos as that is not our brand. Very clear that Arizona State owns ASU. We are App State. <1% of people surveyed nationally would think that ASU means Appalachian State.

  14. AppMan

    June 5, 2012 at 6:32 pm

Arizona State does not own ASU. Alabama State and Arkansas State use ASU just as we do.

Have to agree that ASU is not our recognizable brand. When ESPN runs the score from our games, I have seen APP STATE as the logo they assign to differentiate us from the other ASU teams (Arizona State and Arkansas State). I like the uniforms, but think that they would be more recognizable as ours if they said APP.

First off, great season guys. you all deserved to move on, but it looks like it wasn't quite in the cards this time. NEXT SEASON BOYS!!

Second, what is all the hate for the new uniforms? You old farts are really ornery about pretty much every topic we discuss on Appfan. Let it rest and take a breather. Take a valium and stop complaining about everything. Yeah, the unis are a little different. You have to change it up sometimes.

Not trying to attack anyone, but the negativity gets around here get very old. Yeah, it's a message board and people have their own opinions, i get it.

I hope this year's success has helped on the recruiting front. Most of the starters are seniors and unfortunately won't have another shot at an NCAA Championship. Hats off to them for an incredible season and for bleeding black and gold.

Looking at the recruiting postings on goasu, i think we will be in good shape for another run within 2 years. Any thoughts?

    June 6, 2012 at 7:13 am

Maybe if our "leaders" would do something positive, the negativity would subside. Why have we not heard anything about the future from these clowns? This is a joke.

I'm not one to think too big into rumors and I don't know if this has been batted around already, but I spoke to a professor (PhD from FSU) yesterday that works at South Alabama and he was telling me that it is pretty much a done deal for Florida State and Clemson to be moving to the Big 12. He said we can expect to see the same sort of domino effect once this takes place. A few things have to happen first, such as the new Big 12 commissioner has to be installed but this professor was convinced that this was a sure thing. I asked him about the FSU President commenting that they were not leaving the ACC and he said due to legal issues and not creating a PR nightmare, he had to say that right now until other things are finalized.

He also started mentioning Notre Dame and how they will look to join one of the big conferences. He seemed really knowledgable about the conference moves taking place and I asked him about where he thought App State could end up when things play out, and he still things the Sun Belt or CUSA will be possibilities as teams will once again start moving around the lower conferences as they respond to the domino effect.

Like I said, I'm not big into rumors, but this stuff is interesting to think about since we have such a long wait until the season begins. I'm curious as to what many of you have heard about additional conference moves coming up down the line?

just hoping that everyone could congratulate the baseball team on their successful season instead of people complaining about jerseys and conference realignment issues. makes sense to me. maybe i'm too much of an idealist.

    June 6, 2012 at 8:57 am

I think most everyone is very excited about the baseball team. Don't believe me? Go check out the App State Facebook page and see the number of comments and likes on the news stories about ASU Baseball. I was merely mentioning conference realignment because it affects the entire athletic program, including baseball.

I think it goes without saying that App fans everywhere are very proud of the team and what Coach Pollard has been able to do.

I don't give a crap what ESPN says or does. If we want to use ASU we damn sure will. All this worry about what the rest of the country does or says or dosen't say makes me sick. I don't have an inferiority complex. I don't need their recognition or approval. Virginia and Oklahoma sure as hell know who we are.

Cobb refused to let the baseball team use the interlocking AS logo claiming Arizona State threatened to sue over trademark issue. The two logo's are nothing alike and use different fonts and styles. Insiders said it was about forcing the new Mountaineer head logo on all teams uniforms and there was no contact from the Sun devil Athletic Department. Cobb also stopped Coach Moore from using the Billy Joe App logo on any clothing or luggage. We found a picture in the ASU archives of an ASU baseball team from the 30's with the interlocking AS on their uniform.

Actually six of the nine field players (counting the DH) who started the final regional games were underclassmen. The real need will come among the pitching corps.

  34. AppMan

    June 7, 2012 at 4:53 pm

Billy Joe App was a cartoonish looking ASU football player running with a ball in one hand and stiff arming with the other. His jersey and pants were torn. He was beside the Block A and partially covering it. If you have access to a 1997 media guide the cover picture shows Coach Moore with the logo on his hat. Pretty cool logo.

    June 8, 2012 at 3:08 am

It is cool. I actually have it on a hat and a jacket. Just didn't know that is what it was called. It would make a great logo. I have never seen anything like it in the collage ranks.
