Happy Fourth of July

Blowin’ bubbles with the kids while marching through downtown Boone. Sweet.

Would be a great look on the field

Preseason training, Dagobah style

When Tony Washington signed with us, he was listed at 5-11, 175.

Our current roster lists him at 5-10, 200.

    Good job, Tony.

Still don't like the gold unis, but i don't blame them for passing on the black today.

A local children's advocacy group (that my daughter works with) asked for businesses or organizations willing to help with their parade and cookout, and the team responded in true Mountaineer fashion. She told me today that they had 45 players who wanted to march with the kids, and as you can see by the photos some of them wound up riding a player (most of them, by the time it was over).

Why are the military service branch's not shown? This parade should not have involved Appalachian. Disappointing who they choose to promote on July 4th.

  • bcoach

Another idiot heard from. App should not be involved in a 4th parade?

  • Avory-I was at the parade today. The military was very much involved. Who are you anyway???? You should be posting somewhere else!!

  • AppGrad78

Maybe this video posted by the High Country Press will give you a different appreciation of what the parade was like:

Anyone should be as patriotic as they want to be. Excluding a group on a day like to day makes no sense. This is our day, the United States of America and everyone that is in it should be proud of that fact. As a person who lives in the u.s., including Avery, has the right to voice their opinion on anything they want so it is O.K. for you to feel that way if you want, but I think it is kind of sad. Besides Appalachian is a big part of What Boone is and should be included in their Independence Day Celebration.

78, thanks for sharing the link. It looked like a great parade and my only regret is that I didn't take my family up the mountain to see it in person.

    Happy Birthday America!

Athletics is trying to push "good PR" to put the 2012 spring semester further behind after the rape incidents involving the football players.

Appalachian and Boone have been; are; and forever will be, inextricably linked. You can't have one without the other. I cannot think of either one by itself. My mother (ASTC '41) always talked about Boone with as much love and affection as she did Appalachian, and that was a lot. Please believe me, that was A LOT……….

    Avery:

    You are a freakin moron.

Why dont you go find your bleeding heart a cause and go jump off of a bridge in protest.

You have probably never had a job so all your time is spent bitching about things that have been settled buy due process.

Go post on the Carolina message board. There are plenty of beleeding heart liberals over there.

  • Big Dave

Its not Veterans Day or Memorial day. It's Independence Day and while the military shold always be honored, this day is shared among all Americans so get off the high horse.

    Dear Avery,

Maybe you should attend App. It might increase your intelligence. Stop being ignorant. Who cares, yesterday was about America and not your personal agenda.

    Signed

I think we see Avery's agenda. It's over Avery, the process has been followed maybe not the public emasculation you want so deperately but its over. For you to try to spin this shows a lack of character.

  • Give it a rest, Avery. The racist, libelous anti-ASU campaign ended months ago. Like it or not, App football is happening this year and community involvement and philanthropy are as strong as ever. Take your hoax mongering conspiracy theories and shove 'em.

Only someone of the lynch mob camp of the "Great Unpleasantness" could be disturbed enough to spin a damn 4th of July parade into some kind of chauvinist parade of rapists.

    Go fall down some stairs.

  • APP84

Is this the Dr. Gonzo that wrote in another thread that he never writes anything negative or calls people names?

How many posts that you have written that you have called someone a douche for having a different opinion? "Go fall down some stairs." ??

They eat you alive on MMB.

You would make a good lawyer. I do not know what you do, but why don't you consider law? Apply to that piece of crap Charlotte School of Law.

  • 84,

I never denied that I do that on occasion. In fact I owned up to it and said I'd be mindful of that when discussions heat up in the future. My exact post was:

"Fair enough, (sigh). I’ll keep that in mind next time. It’s easy to be abrasive on a message board when there’s a disagreement I suppose. I swear I’m pretty easy to get along with in person."

Arguing about FBS/FCS ect is one thing, but to continue to perpetuate this "rape" issue is inexcusable and I have no problem being just as abrasive as ever in putting such posts to rest. That is one thing that I'll always be a Dlck about (arguing with UNCc trolls is another).

"They eat you alive on MMB"

Do they? If by 'they' you mean one particular poster and all of his Lion's club buddies (aka the mods), that might be accurate. A small but vocal minority sure does give me a lot of grief over on the stone-age board (not just in discussion, but censoring posts and issuing blatant double standards in their mod duties). It's more of a testament to their distaste for anything progressive, than to me, however. You'll find Saint and other prominent App message boarders bickering with the same dogmatic old men more often than me.

I assume you made that tongue-in-cheek law school comment knowing full well of my intentions. FWIW, baring some unforeseen admissions debacle, I doubt CSOL is where I'll end up. I have a fundamental problem with the idea of a "for profit" law school. Especially one that carries less prestige than, say an NC Central, that costs $32k less a year.

I won't insult you personally, for that would be childish and classless. Thank you for the backhanded compliment about my career and I look forward to the civility of our future discussions. (thumbs up) :-)

  • I'm actually surprised you singled me out, 84. I just reread the thread and it reads like a collective "STFU" from Appfan posters….

Again, sorry to offend you with the stairs comment. It was an incredibly insensitive thing to say.

    Nuff said

  • Troll Who Posts Unde

Too many people on this blog are linked with athletics and the administration.

  • Who Lewis? If you're sure that some posters are "linked with athletics and the administration" you must know which ones, right?

You don't mean the blog writers do you?

  • (sigh)

    Avery,

    Wow….. Just wow…

What a sad existence in which you live.. Taking such a great day and spinning it into that.

I personally am proud they were there – it made the day that much better. It's great to be a Mountaineer and an American.

    APP!!!!

    DR Gonzo

You are right on. I started the name calling so throw some of the blame my way. As a matter of fact I'll take another share. Stupidity is not an opinion it is a lack of brain power.

AVERY and LEWIS YOU ARE IDIOTS!!!

    YOU ARE ALL LOSERS!

    liberalism is a mental disorder.

  • Watauga 72

Well, if this website were dedicated to people who volunteer to join a military organization and thus place their future in the hands on politicians, pictures of said volunteers would be appropriate. It's not. That may explain why pictures of ASU football players appear on Appfan…..what a concept.

Yes, liberalism is a mental disorder…..just like conservatism, reactionaryism, midwesterism….
