Stink confirms CAA rumors

I'm sowwy, fewwas, but I'm a vegetawian. I just hunt for the sport of it. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Talkative – “”There’s been an invitation from the Colonial to Davidson and Charleston,” Georgia Southern AD Sam Baker said in an article in the Statesboro Herald on Sunday. “We’ve not heard, as conference members, where that may lead. It would be hard to tell. I think they both benefit by being in our conference.” In the same article, Baker said the Eagles would not be leaving the Football Championship Subdivision for a Football Bowl Subdivision conference any time soon.”

Shouldn't Charleston and Davidson confirm their own rumors?

  • ceez

Purely for basketball. The replacements for VCU.

  • ASUGoose

Wow, UT Chattanooga AD was just hired to be SMU's AD…

    Ok, AppFan stalking time….

    what happened to :

DRM & Clayton they have been MIA quite some time.

  • A.Freeman

    add Opie to that mix

UTC A/D must see SOCON as dead on vine.

  • MadDoctor

Couldn't blame Davidson, C of C, or the UTC AD. All would be good moves for those involved. Our turn will come, and the sooner the better.

  • bcoach

UTC A/D must see SOCON as dead on vine.

    Why is that?

  • Jamey

If you were Charleston or Davidson and knew ASU and GSU were looking to move up and out…would you stay put and wait for your conference to get gutted?

  • NWA

would you stay put and wait for your conference to get gutted?

That is the same question I have for App. Do you stay put in a sinking socon and put all your marbles in finding an FBS invite in the shorterm or do you think about the CAA as a life boat in FCS while still working towards FBS in the future?

I would be worried about being left in the socon if I were you guys.

Had Charlotte found an FCS football only home in the CAA or the socon I think our idiotic leadership would have rather stayed FCS in the near term so that basketball could stay in the A10. Worked out for the best for us though, not getting into the CAA or socon for football only forced them to find a better solution than A10/FCS Indy. Maybe not going CAA will keep you AD active in trying to find that FBS invite.

  • GeneGenethedancingma

Cobb must not have known about the UTC opening.

  • appdreamin

Almost a Ruby and the Romantics reference there, maddoc. Probably unintentional, I'd bet.

  • 49ers

I believe the best plan for ASU is to take baby steps join the CAA then the SB and then CUSA

  • MadDoctor

    App dreaming

    You'd bet right.

49er, although the baby step strategy (60 years without football) might be appropriate for your guys, you obviously don't understand APP football. Hopefully, you will one day, very soon.

  • 49ers

ehh the baby steps really wasn't our thing we figured why not take the fast track to FBS

  • Appftw

NWA and 49er please take your obnoxious ignorance elsewhere. If we joined the CAA, it's a cool million dollars to get out. The Socon is our best bet by far. WE actually have a football resume that will come in handy soon when the conferences shake up (please shake up).

Just do us a favor, and go to back to the forty giner fan boards–Oh, what's that? You're the only two uncc posters there as well? Fine… I guess you can stay… I mean it's a commuter campus who doesn't feel sorry for you.

  • NWA

    Appftw

Nice – I have been nothing but cordial on this board. What in my post what ignorant or taking a shot at you all?

What happens to you guys is of interest to us.

  • Appftw

Saying that you're worried for us in the socon and that we should join the caa just shows how clueless you are about the landscape of college football. Nice try, though.

I'd almost prefer the outright douchebaggery of say, a georgia southern fan over your passive-aggressive ramblings. Who can blame you though? You don't know how to be a good fan since you've never had a good team to root for. Hopefully, you beat the campbell camels and get hot! The in two years, you'll be in CUSA with a 15,000 seat stadium and we'll have expanded to 40,000+ and maybe still be in the SOCON. I'd still rather be App (both academically and athletically).

  • Appftw

    Then in two years*

  • NWA

    I don't get your hate.

I was simply saying that App has a tough decision to make IMO. If teams start bailing on the socon and you stay and then don't get the FBS invite what is that impact? What about that is passive agressive? It seems to me it all comes down to how close you are to the FBS invite.

If the socon stays intact then staying there makes sense. If the FBS invite is in the short term then staying in the socon makes sense. I have also said that it is very possible that FBS leagues (CUSA mainly) could have advised App on what actions to take. I know for a fact that Big East leadership has advised Charlotte leaders.

As for being clueless about the landscape I said for years that if we would start a team we would find an FBS home in short order. You all said that we were stupid for thinking that.

  • LPAPPFAN

NWA has actually brought up nothing but valid points. I agree with him, it all depends on how close we are to an invite. Hopefully we are closer than I think we are

  • LPAPPFAN

On that same note…. 49ers is nothing but annoying, so yes, please beat it! NWA, you are welcome to stick around

  • Carbine

More sound and fury signifying nothing. We are FCS, we are Southern Conference, and we are going to have another great season competing for a national championship. If you don't like that, or can't respect it, go pull for another team.

  • appthunder90

    nwa

some people see charlotte fans and are prejudiced against them because of the troll charlotte fans. i am one of them, but i like to take each post at its face value before considering that. having said that, you are never anything but cordial, and occasionally correct! except that charlotte will beat app in 4 years. no way bud. maybe in soccer but if our men's team acts like they did last year that would be an exciting game too.

  • thesuitcase

As a Charlotte fan, I have to admit, I was pretty embarrassed reading this board after we got the C-USA bid. A good number of our fans came over here and showed their ass. I would probably hate every Charlotte fan as well after witnessing that crap.

  • NWA

and occasionally correct! except that charlotte will beat app in 4 years.

Well I do have to keep things interesting :)

  • There are charlotte fans? I don't believe i had ever seen the 49ers logo or even knew that that was their mascot until all this conference realignment stuff and the posts about their creation of a football team last year.

  • NWA

    There are charlotte fans?

Plenty of us – ask Sincy, Looserville, Mempiss, EZU and others. App and Charlotte fans just rarely crossed paths until now. Your claim to fame was football, ours was basketball. 8,000 of our fans went to watch a soccer game SOCCER! We are around, expect you will be hearing more from us in the future.

  • hapapp

Announced attendance for NCAA soccer final was 8000. I didn't realize they were all Charlotte fans.

2011 North Carolina 1–0 Charlotte Hoover, Alabama Regions Park 8,777

  • Carbine

I live in the Charlotte area. I have lots of friends who went to UNCC, and a niece who's there now. I have nothing against "Charlotte" as they call it now. I don't see our paths crossing on the gridiron anytime soon. As an FBS school they won't be interested in coming to Boone, and with a stadium half the size of ours it would make no sense at all for us to go to them, as there would be no money in it for us. And no, Bank of America stadium is out of the question.

  • CollegeFan

hapAPP…..it was widely reported that UNC-Chapel Hill brought less than 1000 fans to the soccer championship game. So, maybe you're right…..perhaps Charlotte only brought 7700—not 8000.

  • Ah yes, as a self proclaimed "ECU fan," I trust you to be the authority on UNCc soccer attendance issues.

lol. So I suppose you've given up on your alter ego? No worries. Everyone on here knew you were a UNCc student the second you posted your first comment.

  • MadDoctor

B of A holds 72k and change. I know we could bring our 36,000. The question is whether NC-Charlotte could fill their half of the stadium. I doubt it.

  • NWA

"I know we could bring our 36,000"

Seriously? I mean I know ya'll would bring a crowd – but that number is bigger than some of the local FBS (UNC,NCSU,ECU,WVU, USC) have brought to games there and those groups have bigger alumni groups with more money (as a buying power group by #s) and a bigger name in the world of college football.

Don't get me wrong I am sure you would bring a crowd and I don't doubt that you would have more than we would if we played in the near future, but 36,000 is a bunch.

I am thinking between the 2 of us a game there would probably have 40-45k.

That being said I doubt that happens. BOA costs a crap ton of money to rent out and I don't think either school would want to take on the fiscal risk.

  • Are you dense? Subtract 7k from that figure and you have the average amount of people (in the regular season) that drive up a freakin' mountain to see the same team play. You think those same people wouldn't take the opportunity to drive 1/4 the distance and see the Apps play at BOA? 36k is a very accurate guess as to how many App nation would bring. I wouldn't be surprised to see more.

Please be gone. You're tongue-in-cheek insolence is getting old. Now that all overt UNCc trolls are gone, you don't seem so reasonable by comparison.

  • hapapp

So no unaffiliated fans attended the championship? I guess no one outside of UNCC was really interested.
