He’s improved. Studied hard. Has a role. Should see some PT. (Sound familiar?) The Greatest App Ever and seemingly perennial preseason Panther all-star has another chance to shine tonight against the Texans. We expect to enjoy seeing him in action, get psyched for the real games, and .. well .. /sigh … sound familiar? …. Give ‘em hell, AE.
Panthers look beyond horrible right now.
Not a good sign from the WR point of view. AE not involved in any plays yet.
It's now 8:18 and almost end of first half and I agree. Not good for AE.
Havent seen armanti at all, what about all the hype?!
Is AE hurt or something? If not, how can Rivera challenge him to step up and show what he can do in a game situation if he's not going to put him on the field? I'm ready for AE to move on and try another NFL team!
Just returned a KO 24 yds
Not a bad kick return by AE. Panthers WR corps definitely needs all the help it can get.
Of course he gets no playing time. He is a division 2 player. Coach undoubtedly looks at his bench and says "look at all of these FBS players that attended real schools. If they suck out their imagine how bad this kid must be!"
I called it when the drafted him. He was a waste of a pick. If he could get time to play for a real school and had to settle for Appy, how can he possibly be expected to play in the NFL. So far I have been proven right.
Got another good KO return….Should get some more PT in the second half.
AE in at WR
App just got a big transfer, a WR from Oregon!!
AE just lost his job to Adams. Time to go elsewhere Armanti.
Just targeted AE in double coverage in the end zone
Never open….AE DID save an INT however.
Thayer have hardly put AE in the game,Riveras lip service means nothing ,AE needs to go to the CFL where he will be a true super star, before it's to late, the Panthers have shown they are not going to utilize his skills, even when they were the worst team in the league, and still didn't do it
NOW we are talkin!!!
13 yrds and a
First Down!!
transfer from Oregon Tacoi summer 4 star and still has 4 years of eligibility fast! sub 4.4 forty

I know its the first good of the preseason, but no only do things not look good for AE. Also the panthers in generally with or with out AE did not look good.
Basically, you have to think that 6 wr positions are already locked up (smith, lafell, gettis, murphy, pilares, adams.) Arijitolu also looked better than AE tonight. At this point, if I am the coaches, it is time to put a football in AE's hands and let him compete with clausen for the 3rd qb spot. Hes more of an asset at the 3rd qb spot than clausen. He could fill in as a return guy if adams or pilares got hurt and Chud could be a lot more creative with AE than clausen who probably wont throw a pass all season anyways. If not for this scenario, I'm afraid AE's time with the panthers has come to an end.
How can you possibly say that Tutu looked better that AE at WR tonight? First, Tutu got playing time with the 1st and 2nd teams…AE was stuck with Clausen! Secondly, Tutu let a TD pass go thru his hands and then fumbled away a pass that he never really controlled but the Texans D did! You are right about one thing though…AE should replace Clausen because he is terrible!
I'd rather see him go to a team where he can compete for more than a 3rd string QB.
Two coaching staffs, different QBs, two different offensive philosophies and AE still isn't performing. At some point you App people will have to admit that AE just can't get it done. Just another player in a long line of great college players who just don't translate to the NFL.
It appears the staff's mind is made up. Armanti will get cut and he will get picked up by anther team.
Tutu did NOT have a good night, despite working with the first team. He turned a ball he should have easily caught into an interception because he couldn't secure it. None of the other receivers stepped up either. Armanti did all that could be done given the quarterback he was working with.
What really bothers me about this game is the fact that they put him in so late. No receiver has a chance to shine with Clausen at quarterback. I don't know what the coaches were thinking to set it up as they did, but it seems to me they have given up on him, and that's a mistake. I hope they give him some reps with the first or at least second team on Friday.
And by the way, only two WR positions are "locked up." Barring injury Smith and LaFell have roster spots. I'll believe Gettis is going to play this season when he actually shows up and plays. Murphy has had some moments, but he's not done anything special and has had some embarrassing lapses in practice. Pilares and Adams will probably make the roster as kick and punt returners, respectively, not as WRs. I think the coaches will keep either Armanti or Ajirotutu, but not both. Or they will cut a deal with another team and bring in someone new, because the position is weak in quality despite the numbers.
if they cut him i would rather see him go CFL and play QB
Hakeem is right, AE could be a Grey Cup champion QB in the CFL. He's taylor made for Canadian football with only 3 downs, and forward moving receivers prior to the snap. You know if Darian Durant is one of the best in that league, AE could tear it up.
Ritchie Williams enjoyed success in the CFL…..at the end of the day, this may be Armanti's best bet as well.
Carbine, how can you not see that 6 wr spots are locked up? Its not rocket science. They are keeping smith, lafell, gettis, murphy, pilares, and adams. All of these wrs are better than AE. I'm a big AE fan, ASU alum, and panther psl owner. I have been pulling for him as much as anyone, but he just looks bad. He is not a wr and will never make it in the nfl as one.
AE looks bad? When did he look bad THIS YEAR? In camp he caught everything thrown to him…not one dropped pass. In the game he caught his one catchable ball for 13 yards. He beat the corner and safety on the deep slant only to have Jimmy to throw late allowing them to knock it down. Had he hit AE in stride everyone would be talking about how "great" AE looked! You may be a PSL owner, but you sir are not an AE fan!
+1 Eman
If Armanti is cut by the panthers, then I will no longer be a fan of this organization. They have not given him a fair shake in any sense of the phrase. Garbage time and reps with the second team will not reveal a player's true potential.
If he is having such an outstanding camp then why is he not playing until the second half of a preseason game with our 3rd string qb? Give me a break fellas. He made a good play and beat a cornerback who is probably trying to make a team too. Why would the panthers keep him? He would be the 6th or 7th wr on the team and he will not be the KR or the PR. We are all ASU fans here but its about time that we are realistic about the situation here. It doesnt look good for him. With that said, I'm hoping that he absolutely kills the final 3 preseason games and gets 2 tds in each one!
Free, I can't tell you why he's not out there with the players that he can have a chance at being successful with. All I know is what I have seen and heard from both the media and the Head Coach. Just last week Rivera talked about what a great camp Armanti was having and then 2 days later he came out and named AE and 3 other WR's as vying for the 3rd slot…the 3rd slot! Not just making the freakin team! Why would he do that and then turn around and not let him play? It just doesnt make sense. If he's not good enough, then Rivera should man up and just say so and cut him! Otherwise, put him out there with the 2nd team and see what he can do. If nothing else, AE deserves that consideration!
Anyone else remember last preseason, when Cam completely blew a wide open TD pass to Armanti? Something tells me that if they had connected on that, we would have a lot less Armanti-haters. Some morons still label him as having fumbleitis from last preseason, even though he never so much as bobbled it in the regular season when it actually counted.
As much as I admire Armanti, the only real chance he ever had (given his size) was for someone to take a flyer on him as a backup QB and wildcat-type player. Although I predicted that he would go in the 3d round, I thought the Panthers expended far too much for him and then, under Fox, horribly misused him. After that season (or non-season), the damage was done and it would have taken a truly spectacular second year for Armanti to find a place on the team. I agree that the CFL is an option, but I remain hopeful that he can get to another NFL team that can recognize and use his talents. One wonders how the story might have been different if he'd landed in say, New England.
I hope they cut him, somebody else picks him up, and he comes in to charlotte and scores the winning TD.
Im left scratching my head wondering what happened. Then I think I get it. One of the most talented football players Ive seen at any level got blindsided by NFL style politics. AE can handle a blitz, read a Cover 2, know when to pitch or when to keep, but he was not prepared for coaches using him as a pawn against management. With the Panthers AE was in the wrong place in the wrong time. I, too, would love, in hindsight to have seen him go to New England, but one "cannot unflush a commode", so AE will have to do what he and his agent thinks is best. If its the CFL, or another team, more power to him and God bless him.
Armanti is a gifted athlete and great character player, one currently being wasted in Charlotte.
Personally, I would love to see AE throw a football again! Cut Clausen, put AE in as the 3rd qb, and let Chud work his magic and come up with some trick plays for AE to run. I think it is his only shot. At least if AE was in Clausens spot you would have an emergency returner/wide receiver. If the Panthers ever got so desperate that they had to use Clausen, they would probably sign another QB to start ahead of him anyways. I mean, lets face it…..the panthers messed up. They took AE, a projected 5th-7th round pick, in the 3rd round and tried to make him into something that he isn't. I also think that the panthers just didn't know how to take full advantage of his gifts. The fact of the matter is that there are All-American college wide receivers who can't make it in the NFL, so I can't even imagine how hard it must be to go from a college QB to a NFL WR. Not to mention coaching changes and the lockout. AE is too talented of a play maker to just be cut. He's just not being used in areas that take full advantage of his gifts.
I don't see how anybody can play with Clausen. I'm sorry, but Clausen has got to be one of the most overrated draft picks in history. Notre Dame, the Catholic Church, and even The Pope knows that his skills are terrible. He would have a hard time getting the starting spot at Lenoir-Rhyne! Sorry, just sayin'!
Free,
If you're thinking that AE would have been around in the 6th or 7th rounds, you're crazy. AE would have been drafted no later than the 5th.
Don't critique everything I say. All of the scouting reports said that he was a projected 5th-7th round pick. That's just the facts. It was a dumb move by the panthers to trade a 2nd round pick (33rd overall) to move up to take a guy that you are trying to turn into a wide receiver.
No worries. Wasn't trying to critique everything you say. I agree that it was a stretch to trade the future 2nd round pick to draft a QB that you're trying to move to WR.
Anyway, AE is getting a lot of love in the comments section of this article on the Charlotte Observer: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/08/13/34538…
I like many of the comments personally, and I would also be a fan of moving AE to 3rd QB since he can also play receiver and special teams. This would allow us to cut/trade Clausen. I'm also a fan of allowing AE to walk and let him try his hand with another NFL team or the CFL. Regardless, I still think AE has a bright future if he can find the right team that is willing to use him.
Free, you need to read my post. Gettis isn't a lock for anything UNLESS and UNTILL he actually returns to the field. If you've been to practice, as I have, you've seen Murphy do some good things, then turn right around and do some pretty bad things (run the wrong route, run down field and set up to block while the pass sails just over his helmet, drop passes that hit him in the hands–that kind of stuff). Pilares and Adams will be listed on the depth chart as KR and PR, respectively. The door is still open for Armanti. Whether he's able to get through it or not, well, that's another question.

Carbine, i understand what you are saying. I have been at several of the training camp practices too. AE still has a chance to make the team. He has been catching about everything thrown his way. He has got to really show something in these last 3 preseason games.
Hey, I am a newbie here. I am sorry if this Isn`t the best section for this post but I was looking forward some one here on http://www.appfan.com would be ok to show me where I can watch the movie The Dark Knight Rises On the internet for free. Thanks
