Obligatory: The silly story popping up today

too good to checkThis is going viral, and we enjoy traffic bait, so here it is. Some random dude with a random website writes a whimsical piece based on an unnamed “source” in an “upcoming piece” who says Michigan was getting its Cypress Hill on during that faithful day in ’07. We’re pretty sure it’s a joke/lie, but it’s being taken seriously apparently. /sigh

So, what if they had won, they were gonna say they beat us hung over and stoned?

  • Boone Goon

All I need to know is what the scoreboard said after 4 quarters of play! 34-32!! Nothing else matters!

  • ceez

I remember people saying similar things about Co Co and Armanti after the Richmond loss in 08

  • Monster Appfan

That is crazy… true or not one fact is certain they totally underestimated us. They were arrogant and felt entitled to a National Championship. God gave them their talent and they abused it. We took away their glory and put it in the righ…t place. I will never forget the team praying in the center of the field after that game. If you want to hear the other side of this read: "King of the Mountain:The Jerry Moore Story." We had some wonderful kids on that team.

I know the thing about AE, Coco and others is true about Richmond. I heard it firsthand from an O-lineman.

    HA HA HA …

I guess the entire special teams unit was stoned because that is what cost them the game. Two blocked kicks. If they make one of them the greatest upset never happens.

I guess the defense was stoned on Dexter's TD. I guess Henne was stoned when he got sacked.

ROFLMAO … Let them think that boys …

Locker room material right here. I hope their players think that. Please think that.

I guess we were stoned against Maine. Man we sure did look stoned!

Why would a national championship contender team get stoned before a game? The seniors came back to win a title and for that reason alone. Why blow it. I don't see a Henne and the bunch doing that. I hope they thinik that though. They might get stoned again to the tune of 800,000.

And the next week Oregon beat the crap out of them with the whole Oregon team stoned. College football players smoke… a lot. This isnt news really, Tyrann Mattheu, regardless of his bad habbits, was one of the best players in the country last year, and we know he was clean and sober all season… Unless it was their first time smoking, they knew what they were doing. And Michigan looked real pissed off at halftime from my point of view, not apathetic.

  • asu7

Ya they came out and caught back up at halftime … that first half must have been really sobering :)

  • Dixiedawg80

This is really very funny. Why now? Bunch of BS if you ask me..

  • asu7

I guess that will be everyone's excuse now …

    We were high …

  • 3-Star

La da da da da da La, Da Daaa,

La da da da, La da da da, La da da daaa

I was gonna block my assignment until I got high

I was gonna get up and protect the kicker but then I got high

my program is still messed up and I know why (why man?)

    yea heyy,

    - cause I got high

    - cause I got high

    - cause I got high

  • asu7

LMAO 3-star … I was singing that song before you even posted it …

  • MIDWEST

and now ten of them are playing in the NFL

    and I know why…

    Cause they got high

    Cause they got high

    Cause they go high-igh.

  • EMCasu04

Sounds like a bunch of 20-20 hindsight BS to me…or 420-420 hindsight I guess.

So glad UM approved of their coach and program. Where did they end their ranking and where is their coach?

Yet it only took 5 years for this to come to light…. As the old saying goes.. I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.

  • Appy97,00

People said the same thing about some of our key players when lost to VMI in the mid-90's.

  • AppOrange

Worst loss I ever saw, aweful

  • All this story proves is an extreme lack of discipline in that program. Either A) Someone is lying to make themselves look less bad (not sure how that works – oh we weren't that bad, we were just stoned) or B) There was no accountability among coaches and players for their actions.

All time record is still Appalachian State 1 – Michigan 0

  • III Pete

Really surprised this story or one like it took almost 5 years to surface. Michigan was not ready to play APP State that day nor could they

make adjustments or pick up the tempo before the final gun. Cost coach Carr his job and many excuses and embrassment for the staff, players and program. But it will be forever a Victory earned by the Black and Gold and remain in APP State lore.

  • Appnaysayer

Reminds me of Bubba Smith claiming that the 69 Super Bowl, won by the Jets, was "fixed" so the AFL could become legitimate. To which I think Joe Namath had the one appropriate response, "Really?"

  • John C

    Everyone:

I live in Michigan and trust me, don't put stock in the rumors flying out of Ann Arbor…..the Michigan faithful I know (who'd love to have an excuse they could sink their teeth in to) say this story has absolutely no credibility.

Bottom line….for whatever reason you choose….the good guys were the better team that day and won a game that really shouldn't have been close at the end.

  • thesuitcase

regardless of if this is true or not, y'all won that game on that day. If michigan showed up high, that's their own fault. still doesn't change what happened. Shows just how wrong people were in thinking that the FCS talent level was THAT much worse.

  • Jared

The only grass I saw smoked the entire game was when Dexter Jackson took the slant to the end zone.

  • Apple+At+Chin

I have just now been able to stop laughing long enough to post a comment.

+1 Jared. That's the truth! But like I said in a previous post on another thread…both teams had a chance to make the final score different than what it was. Luckily, we made fewer mistakes than they did and came out on top.

With all this mumbo-jumbo about UM being high and getting their 420 on during the last match-up is just going to add fuel to the fire come 2014. I can't wait to see the signs that App fans are going to hold up during the game and how our players our going to respond to all this nonsense. All I have to say is "give 'em hell boys!"

What happens if we beat them again? What will the excuses be the next go around? Please, feel free to make up and post UM excuses or any witty signs that should be held up during the game….

  • Murray

Let it go. Our program has been going downhill because we have just been trying to maintain.
