Hyped – “Over the past six seasons, ASU and Montana have led all FCS programs in home-game attendance three times. Last season, ASU had the highest regular-season attendance average of 28,031. Montana was second at 25,662.” The Rock has added 900 more seats, thanks to expanded end zone seating. O/U official attendance – 31,000. As for score, we’re going all in on the home team baby! The D looked strong against ECU. Passing game should be fine. O/U victory margin – 9.
CURRENT FORECAST. Rain – “Overcast with thunderstorms and a chance of rain, then thunderstorms and rain showers in the afternoon. High of 72F. Winds from the SSW at 5 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%. Mostly cloudy with rain showers in the evening, then clear.”
I think Montana would have more people at their games if they had grass seats, but it's a bowl in Missoula.
I believe if one of their endzones was a grass area they would have less seating available. You can fit more people in actual seats then you can on a grass hill.
Right now I think our biggest key is managing turnovers. Two fumbles and an interception won't get it done no matter how well you play.
That said, our D played really well against ECU and on O, JJ looked great and receivers looked young but good.
Go 'Neers, give 'em hell.
With grass you have no limit on seating capacity like Montana does for their stadium.
Under on both. Weather currently will control attendance and worried about our RBs and DBs.
Going to be a tight one. 33-31 Apps hang on to win.
I go under on both. I say 30k and the good guys win by 7. The D looked great last weekend. I can't wait to get to the ROCK
I thought ASU D looked great against ECU, they just looked tired in the second half. With the turnovers they spent more time on the field. On a side note, is anybody else still mad about the first "fumble" call? I still believe his knee was down! That cost us seven and changed the momentum. I say that ASU comes out and dominates at home, so I will go over with 14.
As for the crowd turnout, I will say under, 29,300. I think the possibility of getting wet will keep some people at home since it is a televised game.
I am going over 31,000 for the crowd IF it clears up around game time like it's suppose to. But if the rain lingers into the first part of the game I think it will be just under 30,000. As for the margin of victory, I am going under with App winning by 6. Victory will be achieved if App can limit foolish penalties and inopportune turnovers. I am also hoping that the electric atmosphere at the game will factor in and give App a slight edge. This game will be fun and could turn out to be one of the best games ever played at The Rock. Time for App nation to show up in full force and bring their big boy voices to The Rock on Saturday.
Amen Steve!
I'm going under on both. Weather plays a factor in attendance and I doubt there will be more than 2k Griz fans. Hope I'm wrong and they bring more to enjoy "the Rock" but it's a long costly trip. Think we'll see another close match-up. With 2 more starters out, depth is at a premium for ASU due to injuries and suspensions. Rain in the forecast seems like it would favor the running team…UM. Still believe App's talented youth will make a few mistakes.
ASU – 27
UM – 31
Dammit I want a W!!!
Phil, no I'm not mad about the fumble. I saw a slow motion replay and it appears the ball starts to come loose before JJ is down. However, I'm not sure there's enough video evidence that had the call been opposite that the refs could have overturned it in favor of ECU. I'm more upset about the PI calls on uncatchable balls. If they are going to throw the flag, at least call defensive holding. No way their DB, or Megatron, would have caught that ball with or without a defender on the field.
Needless to say, that game is over and there are a lot of positives to take away from it, as well as quite a few things to work on. I like the progress I've seen so far. Let's hope they continue improving!
GO APP!!!
DB = WR
I know Montana can score, but I think everyone is underestimating the defense. They really came into their own at the end of last year and look to be a force this year.
I think it's a closer, lower scoring game…
24 – 17 App
I think weather will hurt attendance and will be under 30k. If we were at full strength and not down multiple players to suspensions and injuries I would feel alot better about this one, but it is what it is.
I think if we can limit their running game we win. If we can't, we are in trouble.
Under 27500
we win +3
I see the weather having a huge part in both the game and the crowd.
28,000 for attendance
App 24 Griz 20
I expect a really big crowd. I only decided at the last minute to attend and I'll be in a single seat a few rows above my buddies. Lot's of the Atlanta Apps are coming rather it rains, snows, or has volcanic activity. Would love to break the attendance record and if the weather cooporates maybe we will.
Go Apps!
I don't see how we will break the attendance record when there are still reserved seats left.
Is South Dakota's offense that good or is Montana's defense that bad? They had 24 points scored against them.
According to GoASU.com, tickets remain. With the uncertainty of the weather…26,000
Real fans will be there and the others will not.
Phil, I believe Montana had a blown coverage to give up an 80 yard TD pass and a tip ball that resulted in a pick 6. They limited SD's offense to 45 plays and Montana doubled them up with 98 plays and 34 first downs. Turnovers kept the Griz from scoring more points but they dominated the game for the most part.
Hope our D does not have to be on the field for 98 plays this week. We will need some 3rd down conversions this week.
Montana will have more fans at the Rock than any SoCon team this year. Too bad many of our fans will stay at home because they're afraid to get a little wet. The fans that will be there will be rocking though!
under 31k attendance but not by much. Probably around 29k.
Final Score:
App 41
UM 20
Domination. GO 'NEERS!
I think about football on every day there isn't football during the year. Rain/Sleet/Snow who cares?!?!?! That should not keep you away.
Giving up Sideline passes for UNC @ WFU to see this! Ready to be Loud and Proud at the Rock!
APP pulls away late 34-24…. You can count on 4 from my group being there.
http://www.yosefscabin.com – new App message board. Come on over and discuss Appalachian sports.
I cant wait to watch this game!
It sems like an etermity since these meetings
were first proposed.
I think it wll be a close one for sure
I wish i could be in Boone for the game.
Good luck !
H
I would love to go WAY over on the attendance, but unfortunately only the truly dedicated fans show up in the rain/sleet/snow/heat. i'll go under on attendance and points. Good guys win 24-17
Price and Lott to play Saturday.
http://www2.journalnow.com/sports/2012/sep/06/asu…
I see a very physical team coming in here and can only think Villanova. I think the crowd will be pretty big considering the rareness of night games, dispite the rain, however look for a pretty big exodus at the half if the rain does not stop.
Apps 23
Mont 24
Attendence 28K
Hope I'm wrong, leaving in 9 hours to head up the Mtn. Should be epic.
Both teams are use to playing in front of big crowds and weather is not an issue. Our players off the field issues are no different than Montana's.
So will end in a tie due to weather.
25-23 Griz. Can't wait until kick off. Should be fun…
Murray, while we've both had our share of off the field bs, Montana probably got it worse than us. They had a Federal investigation looking into their athletic department and eventually had their head coach and AD fired along with players getting the boot. Then their qb gets accused of rape and he's out. Don't go off posting half-cocked without checking facts, oh wait that's your MO.
i stand behind what I typed. Our players off the field are no different than Montana's. If App was investigated, I am sure they would find where all the bodies are buried.
hhmmmmm….under 31k…@30,856….
