The Jerry Moore Farewell Tour may finish up around .500 this season if we are gonna play like this. I can assure you that Ga. Southern and Wofford will mud-stomp us if we cannot figure out how to look better than a 2nd tier Pop Warner team. Catching the few seconds of "off-air" that David Jackson lets slip before the goasutv feed mutes their audio is proof positive that even he is ready to take a flying leap off of the press box right now.
Here is my biggest problem with this game. WE WERE BEATEN BEFORE WE EVER TOOK THE FIELD. I feel like I write that sentence 2-3 times per season. Citadel walked on the field ready to win a football game. We came on the field ready to see some fireworks and hear people chant APP STATE. The coaching staff has to find a way to get these guys focused and motivated to hit it hard and early like they did last weekend. There is no excuse for the lack of effort that has been exhibited today.
Time to clean house this is unacceptable complete lack of preparation.

Moore has stacked the deck with weak competition for years to pad his record and to make the playoffs. He stinks and the game has passed him by. These are Moore's recruits as well. Satterfield WILL clean up the mess that Moore has created.
We just don't have very good players. You don't get beat like this unless there is a difference in talent level. I have no idea how a military school out-recruited us. If you want to blame something on the coaches, blame them for the terrible recruiting they've done the past 4 years. Recruiting is what matters in college ball; not "getting get the players focused."

On the Citadel side: They get big kudos as a team to be reckoned with. When you can run that triple-o (or whatever it is) and throw off of it they way they did today, you will live long and prosper–at any level.

CitDog. Your Bulldogs may have a hard time with Wofford. Besides that game Citadel could run the table in the Socon. I really thought App s defense would fare better vs the triple option. I had some concerns but I didn’t think the Bulldogs would put 52 on the Mountaineers and 600 plus yards. That defense looked worse than a High School Defense. Now I have a major concerns with Wofford and the Stink. Hopefully the Apps can make some major improvements.

Kudos to Citadel. Getting beat like that is a hard pill to swallow especially at home. However, the Citadel has made great strides in the past few years and has had us on the ropes the last two years. Congratulations for finally getting the upset. Their quarter back was very impressive. I will voice some concerns with the coaching staff. There were no real attempts at throwing the ball deep today. I'm not sure if this was by design or if our WR's were just covered that deep throughout the whole game. Also why such conservative play calling on special times. Why not practice on side kicks? Our players were in a lackadaisical fog and I believe our coaches were not far behind.

Adversity reveals the character of a team. Think back to our championship campaigns: App State suffered some tough losses in each of those years. The kids and coaches learned from their mistakes, refused to quit and look what happened?
What will the 2012 squad do? We'll see next week. Frankly, this could be the best thing to happen to this young squad and the mostly-new coaching staff. A beat down like this will either divide the coaches/kids (and the finger-pointing will commence) or they will bond together and get stronger.

Oh yeah AppFan, I'm not a fan of the new format either. I miss being able to click on the last post on Recent Comments and go to the end of the thread (especially on game day since we don't get ASU Football on the radio here in Pirate Land on the SOBX.
I only got to listen to the second half of this one, but I've had a chance to study the play-by-play. It seems that in the first half our defense often dropped Citadel ball carriers for losses on first or second downs, or held them to small gains, only to give up huge plays on third downs. I had noticed in our first two games hat our defense was very aggressive, often getting penetration and making plays behind the line but also giving up the occasional big play. Today it seems we gambled and lost too many times. You've got to hand it to the Citadel coaches for figuring out how to take advantage of our defensive tendencies, and their offense for executing a brilliant game plan to perfection. I have no idea why our offense was so anemic in the first half today, and I was shocked that we elected to punt on our first possession of the second half with only a long yard to go. That was the earliest surrender I can ever recal seeing on a football field.

We came out flat and they played an impeccable game. Those two together always end up with an arse whoopin’. We have a history of coming out flat after big wins. We beat GaSo last year only to hand them the trophie the next week in Greenville. We lost to Wofford two weeks after the Michigan win. Never fails. I’m not ready to count us out for the season, but I’m worried about Wofford and GaSo. Not sure of our D has the brains to defend the TO. Very dissapointing game. The worst loss we’ve taken in 25 years and worst home loss ever probably.

This one really, REALLY hurts! I'm stunned! Last week, I was just about ready to book my tickets to Texas, but today…..??? The fans were sure into it until it got so far out of control that it was like the air was let out of the whole stadium. Unlike so many who bailed out early and left the stands, I stayed until the bitter (and boy was it ever!) end.

Just embarrassing today. Defense looked awful, offense had 7 possessions in the first half and scored once, others were 5 plays or less. Just giving El Cid more chances to score.(I think Sat asked Chris Moore for playcalling help the first half, looked like it). Lots of blame on both sides. I too, stayed until the very end. This is the most frustrating and disgusting game I have witnessed. My first thought is utter lack of preparation. We looked completley confused on defense. It wasn’t so much mistakes like missed tackles, but just lack of penetration up front. Even when we swarmed the right person, they still gained 5 yds/carry. Dont know what it is, but our 3rd down defense has be horrible all year. All 3 games thus far, we have done well on 1 &2, then give up a long 3rd down gain.
Most of the play calling is as bad if not worse than last year. Miller is a good back, but no one will be successful running all the time ( except the citadel and Dan Moore of Montana). We must get an effective pass game going in order to open up the run. We have gotten away from the qb option pass that was so successful. Last week, Washington was in motion almost every play, but we never direct snapped to him, or tried an end around or a reverse. Today, when our offense got moving, plays like these provided the spark.
What is most frustrating of all is with 5 mins left in an un-winnable game, we still had jamal and miller in the game putting themselves in danger. What if JJ got put out for the season trying to cut the deficit to 5 tds? Plus, kam Bryant has yet to take a snap in a game. He needs experience.
I’m not jumping off the ship, but I do question a lot of the coaching staff’s decisions today. Hopefully we will be prepared for chatt. Next week and even up out conference record.
Can I like this like 42 times? Spot on. Our coaching staff needs to be STRONGLY evaluated if some serious changes aren't obvious next week.
Agree with everything except are starters coming out. Our starters are the ones who got their a**es handed to them, they needed to be on the field the last five minutes being embarrassed, playing the Citadels 2nd string, trying to find some heart and motivation for next week.
One more thing… What respect I gained for the citadel was lost when they were still going for the TD with 30 seconds left in a game they were leading by 30+ points.

Wish we could rewind to baseball season where we had a nationally ranked team in REAL D-1, not a 1-2 team playin jv football
Since we're all in negative nancy mode…..why do we have to have multiple players wearing the same jersey #? that's jv at best. Just get enough freaking jerseys for every player to have his own. Chisolm wears 8, so does the freshman, Millhouse on defense. Kam Bryant wears 17, so does Shaffer on defense.

Really? Every team in the nation wears multiple numbers on offense/defense. The easiest instance that comes to mind off the top of my head was Earl Thomas #12 on defense and Colt McCoy #12 on offense at the University of Texas. Oh, I forgot only JV teams do that. Get a grip.
And after that kind of blowout we still don't have a backup qb who has ever taken a snap. Couple that with leaving your only QB in the game and your best back.
Worst loss in asu history. As bad a loss as michigan win period. Coach moore did not have the team ready to play all to common.
From what I am seeing, we are in situation that may take a few years to turn around. Recruiting is clearly not what it should be for a program like ours, but the bottom line is we have a coach that is not mentally equipped to coach a college football team. It's really sad, but true.
I don't know how you can say that. We have ONE qb and we have ONE rb, what more do you want?
We have a coach that is really good at crossing his arms on the sideline. I think Jerry has run his course here at App. Now he needs to bow out and watch from the suites we can’t sell.
That may be true but the man that you guys have named coach in waiting sure has not shown me anything so far. I am begining to think we need a 100% replacement of the coaching staff. In hiring new eliminate all alum. Get rid of all the entitlement attitude. We won 3 championships and beat M. That was a long time ago. It is over. It is history and we are the only ones in the world who care. Stick the trophies in a closet and get to work.
Get backups in the game so we have a future. We had our glory years BEFORE all the fancy crap like boxes and extra seats. I am very afraid we have turned into a mini carolina.
The mini Carolina thing is bull $hit. But, I agree we need to clean house and get a new direction. Moore never could coach and now he can't even hold the team together. The school and the fan base needs to send a messgae. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! A good way to do that is to make a switch NOW. I for one do want to endure the remainder of this season with Mooe at the helm and it not fair to ask our players to do it. Will that equate to more wins this year?….no it won't but it will set the tone for next year and the next.
Enough of this already. Somebody do something!

Coach Moore gets NO credit for the impressive win against Montana last week, and ALL of the blame for yesterday's debacle against The Citadel.
I'm sick about yesterday's game too, but arm tackling isn't necessarily a coaching issue. Once Citadel was up by 21, they were begging for us to throw the deep ball so they could pick it off.
I'm not for one minute saying the coaching staff doesn't share the blame, but to put it all on them is ludicrous. However, it is the easy thing to do from the bleachers or your easy chair.
Who is responsible for everything the team does or fails to do? Here is a hint….it ain't the "F"ing Players!

Yes they were and Moore is responsible for the program heading in the wrong direction for the past five years. You have to ask yourself how they could play so well against Montana and suck so bad against El Cid. This game came down to preparation and leadership from the coaching staff. The reason I am so pi$$ed off is because I believe that we can play and win against anybody. What it comes down to is the coaching staff willing to prepare and put in the effort to win or are they going to watch Springer all week and play racket ball. I don't care if you think the coaches are "football gods" or not. No one can say that they prepared for that game last week. NO ONE! THEREFORE, IF THEY DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHY SHOULD I or anyone else for that matter !
I can maybe see why some people would be taken aback by your delivery, but I can't understand why people can't understand your logic. Of course Coach Moore and staff were responsible for the great display against ECU and the huge Montana win. No one said they weren't, that's merely a defense mechanism used by people who don't wish to see Coach Moore scrutinized I believe. What is so concerning is that we can play that well yet be COMPLETELY dominated by a team at home. Yes, yes, I realize they want to win to; I'm not saying we could have won, I'm saying we shouldn't have been down 31-0 in the first half. Our coaches over the past five years have been consistently inconsistent. With the replacements made this year, you have to begin to question the overall leadership, i.e. Coach Moore. The man retained his incompetent son and OL coach on staff at the expense of the program, so why are we all giving him the benefit of a doubt as to his leadership now? Sure, we might win Saturday, but with our teams recently, who know's how we'll show up. I hope we get back on track, my heart will always bleed black and gold, but this roller coaster has left me tired. I want consistency, I don't have crazy aspirations of unbeaten seasons. Someone fix it.
By the way…how is arm tackling not a coaching issue? If everyone on the team is doing it the issue is a collective failure of the staff to emphasize proper tackling technique. If only one or two players are arm tackling then I would say it is an individual issue. From what I saw it is definitely a collective issue. Every player on the team was trying to "wish" the runner to the ground not just one or two players.
When the reels off multiple 40 and 50 yard TD runs – that isn't Satterfield's fault. I don't think Satterfield allowed them to pu 52 on the board either.
We cleaned house on the offensive side of the ball, but I think they need to start looking at the defensive side of the ball as far as the coaching is concerned. Is Dale the right guy to lead the D?
No he never was. He is just on of Moore's cronies that got moved up because he outlasted everyone else. Kind of like how Moore is the winningest coach in the SOCON. If you outlast everyone else by 15 years it becomes very easy.
Goose you are correct about the 40 and 50 yard runs. He does not coach the defense or call their plays. Here is the deal though. It is his job to make sure we score one more point than the other team and he didn't do that. I am not sure of all the reasons he called the playes he did but my best guess after cooling down is that he does not have the players to execute the plays he used to be able to do. Now to your point I agree something has to be done on the D side of the ball. we are not prepared in a lot of games.
