LOVE LOVE LOVE THAT BoD!!!! One of the BEST shows I've EVER seen this ensemble perform and that goes back awholelotta years! Drumline: You make me wish I were back out there with you! AWESOME! Colorguard: You're the STRONGEST ASU guard I've ever seen! Loving the creative new equipment moves and innovative choreography! Just one teeny tiny favor to ask: You know I love you, but we're all hoping that those purple silks are now packed away somewhere never to be seen again. And…..PLEEEEZE ditch those maroon flags for this Saturday! Elon's colors are maroon and shiny sparkly Wake Forest Gold so those are a NO-NO! THANKS!!!!!

Let me just say, I apologize for what I may start here. But I don't know where else to mention it since the Sunbelt is mentioned above…
With what appears to a "go ahead" by GaSouthern to move up to the FBS following the recent student vote, it seems likely that the Sunbelt will be looking to add them, especially considering GaState is there as well.
That being said, do you expect if the Sunbelt makes a move to take GaSouthern and US in the off-season, that we go Sunbelt? We'd probably be in a division with GaSouthern, GaState, MTSU, WKU and maybe Troy?
I'd be delighted with that type of line-up of conference play. All still relatively close and some great programs. MTSU and WKU both look really good this year as well.
Anyways, again, I'm sorry because I know this will probably start a spiral of death…I've just been thinking about it.

Actually, I do understand WHY they have alternate colors. It's for visual effect. (Yeah, I'm throwing a little band terminology at you.) I don't object at all to other colors, it's just PURPLE and any other color that happens to belong to OUR RIVAL TEAMS. Alternate colors and equipment are great and add a lot to the visual aspect of the performance….especially bright colors that pop, sparkly fabric, etc. Let's throw a little neon green and florescent orange out there!
My vote goes to realtree camp and blaze orange for deer season!

I'm glad you think the band rocks, but "no" to your question. Having guys in the guard is great! Talent is talent so let them perform. I was a girl in the traditionally all-male drum line and no one questioned that.

Gonzo and I have been saying the same thing for about a year. I look pretty favorably on that lineup. Sunbelt wins over big programs making it look very appealing to those that fave the sunbelt no respect before. I like that move as much as confusa (except reuniting with ecu).
I hope and expect a move to the SBC in the off season.
I just hope Cobb's comment about the Sun Belt being a glorified FCS league don't kill our chances to get in.
Purple is not a color that should ever be displayed in Boone unless it is being beaten without mercy.
The SUNBELT fit would be an ideal step for the program is we are going to make the move to FBS. There is good football being played in that conference, and it would provide a regional lineup to keep travel costs within reason for ALL sports. Keep in mind, whatever conference we end up in affects more than just football.
And lastly…While I am obvously saddened by the passing of any member of the Appalachian family, I hope that this case does not turn into a witchhunt of every bar and gas station in Boone. I think we can all agree that WE made the choice to drink when we were in college and we all found one way or another to facilitate that. While I do not condone any bar/restaurant/store that willingly violates laws regarding underage service, I hope that we are not going to see the all-out barrage on alcohol that the Boone Police and Town of Boone have been waiting to wage for years. Just my two cents, and I hope I presented them in a manner that was in no way disrespectful to Mr. Blalock.

If DP ends up with some serious playing time as a DB, then this should be one of the greatests examples of how a leader and teammate works hard to be the best football player he can be, regardless of what his original duty was. This guy is unreal.

Sorry, I must have put my comments on another blog. The performance Saturday was the best performance we've seen in many years. New material, a little swagger and a lot of horns!!!!!!! Now we are talking. Hopefully the numbers will come back now. I enjoy seeing the band in the end zone although the fewer numbers make it harder to hear in 206. On black Saturday I don't want to see any color flag but BLACK. And by the way the new director does reply to his emails unlike our dearly departed concert director. So goes the BOD so goes the football team! It didn't hurt that they play a little Zepplin either…I just hope they don't repeat it for the next 5 years………

My guess is no one has thought to email him their objections or to at least point out the disdain for purple in Boone.

Jesus people. It's a performing ensemble, and they use flags that are different colors to accent different parts of the show. They don't say WCU or Elon on them, they're colors. Give it a rest
It's good that those colors don't offend you….that's fine. But when I see purple I INSTANTLY think "Western, Furman, etc. etc. etc." I believe a lot of other people in our fan base do, too. It's like a knee-jerk reaction. It's just as easy to use other colors than opposing school colors in the show so let's make that investment.
Tell that to the basketball team on "wear red for Haiti" night. Oh yeah, thats right, we lost to a D-2 school no one had ever heard of whose colors were red and white… Very superstitious.
Did anyone see the picture in the SI link? I honestly got a little chuckle out of the picture of our fans, as the guy in the upper middle of the picture is giving the finger and it's blatantly obvious
"Alternate colors" and "visual effect" represent band terminology? I would have thought it would go much deeper than those phrases.
I admit to being extreme on this point, but I prefer to see no color other than black, gold/yellow and, if necessary, white on anyone representing App State in an official capacity on a playing field or court. And as band lady says, purple is especially offensive. Besides Furman and WCU, there's JMU and ECU; I can tolerate Udub and LSU purple on TV, but no purple of any kind in KBS.
All that said, if the band feels a need for "alternate colors," they should be very sensitive to avoiding colors worn by that day's opponent or by any rival.
