Sun Belt: New era dawns

FinallyAnd we start off in Statesboro, where the Eagles are officially Sun Belt bound.

Some details.

The Eagles will begin playing Sun Belt games and will be a revenue sharing member of the conference in 2014 and eligible for the Sun Belt conference title, but will not be eligible to play in a bowl game. In 2015, Georgia Southern will become a full member of the conference and be bowl eligible.

With the exception of men’s soccer, all other Georgia Southern teams will begin Sun Belt play in 2014 and eligible for the conference championship. Since the Sun Belt does not field a men’s soccer program, Georgia Southern is negotiating to find a conference home for the team.

Great crowd on hand. And the AD is hyped! And apparently talking trash.

Sun Belt has official release out. And looks to be busy this summer.

App State announcement at 4. Unless we missed a memo we have no idea where.

THEATRICS. We often kid our friends down in Statesboro, but with regards to their big presser this morning …. wow. Well played Eagles.

STARTING POINT. A beginning.

Appalachian State athletic director Charlie Cobb said at an on-campus news conference, “I want to stress the fact that today is a starting point for us. I’d like to repeat that, today is a starting point. If anyone thinks today’s announcement is a culmination moment for Appalachian, please rest assured that the heavy lifting starts today.

Some teams will remain SoCon – “The Mountaineers field hockey team will continue to compete in the NorPac Field Hockey Conference and men’s soccer and wrestling will stay in the Southern Conference.”
